Fantastic 5.0
Aside from the slightly older shuttle vehicle, the entire trip was very satisfying. Although the supplier doesn't contact you again before the trip, the driver arrived on time for hotel pickup. We experienced heavy afternoon rain, but still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. Remember to advise tourists to wear swimsuits (because you'll be bathing elephants in the river) or shorts and sandals, and to definitely bring rain gear and a change of clothes! Then you can enjoy the whole process! At 1:00 PM, hotel pickups begin. At 1:30 PM, we depart for about an hour's drive. At 2:30 PM, you can store your belongings in lockers (locks provided), followed by an explanation and preparation of food for feeding the elephants. At 3:00 PM, you'll feed the elephants, take photos, walk with the elephants, take photos in the forest, play in the mud with the elephants, and bathe and take photos with the elephants in the river. At 4:15 PM, you'll be shuttled to the restaurant for a buffet meal (fried rice, fried chicken nuggets, fruit, soup). At 5:00 PM, we begin the return journey, arriving at the old city at 6:00 PM for drop-offs back to individual hotels.

We had an absolutely amazing day! The ATV ride was so much fun, and the views along the way as we explored different locations were breathtaking. We then visited a beautiful waterfall before ending the day with a peaceful bamboo rafting experience, such a relaxing way to finish an adventurous day. I would honestly do this experience again and again! Our tour guides were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming, which made the entire experience even better. Absolutely one of the best experiences we’ve had! ❤️🌿🏔️

Fantastic 5.0
This was a very impactful experience. Initially, I misunderstood the itinerary, and our guide, Koh, patiently explained everything to me until I understood. Afterward, to ensure a better experience for the entire group, and fearing the heat, Koh moved the bamboo rafting to be the first activity of the morning. Then came the main event, the ATV activity. As a petite woman, I found it a bit challenging to handle the ATV. Guide Koh kept looking back to check on me. He was very professional and incredibly patient, offering me a lot of encouragement! I'm truly super grateful! Additionally, I met two wonderful New Zealand female friends on this trip, which made the entire ATV experience even better! I hope Koh and they can see my sincere thanks! Instructor: Koh Safety: Excellent Experience: Absolutely amazing

Fantastic 5.0
First and foremost, I highly recommend this tour. At the beginning, during pickup, the guide couldn't find us due to an inaccurate accommodation address. Even though he searched for us for nearly an hour under the hot sun, he wasn't angry at all. Instead, he quickly rearranged the itinerary and had a driver pick us up. I'm truly grateful to him. The pickup vehicle was an air-conditioned 11-seater van, which was very comfortable. The elephant sanctuary isn't very large, but it has reasonably clean restrooms. It's worth noting that you can feel the genuine love the conservationists and guide have for the elephants. There are no commercial performances or rides, only interactive activities like feeding, showering, and making rice balls with the elephants. There's also plenty of time to interact and take photos with them. The guide is very knowledgeable about elephant ecology and will explain everything in detail, guiding us through our interactions with the elephants. For lunch, there was delicious Northern Thai curry noodles, fried rice, fruit, and more – that fried rice was truly amazing! The ziplining part was also a lot of fun. The instructors were professional and humorous, ensuring everyone's safety. They also took photos and videos for us during the activity. There are about ten different ziplines to try, with varying distances, heights, and types, so you won't get bored. It was genuinely enjoyable! Finally, I want to thank the guide again. He was truly dedicated, genuinely loves elephants, and was very friendly to the tourists. All in all, I highly recommend this tour!

The excursion was definitely worth it. Both the pickup and the tour were excellent. Our guide, Jokur, provided a lot of information and was very personable. We would gladly do it again.

What to know before visiting Mae Wang

Top experiences at Mae Wang through the year

Mae Wang’s most booked experiences are its Tours, followed by Outdoor & sports activities and a smaller number of Water activities. Demand rises and falls through the year, peaking in October and November and dipping most noticeably around May.

Best activities for families, couples and solo travellers

Families often favour the town’s Tours, which offer easy, entry-level ways to see highlights and suit mixed-age groups. Couples can pick from Tours for relaxed shared itineraries or Outdoor & sports activities for more active, scenic outings. Solo travellers and small groups will find Outdoor & sports activities appealing for variety and challenge, while Water activities provide a compact, focused option for adventurous individuals.

What travellers from the Philippines should book ahead

Most visitors stay flexible — bookings are typically made about five days before travel, so many activities can be arranged a day or two out. The earliest planners tend to book around sixteen days ahead, and this becomes important during the peak months of October and November when availability tightens.

How the main categories compare on price and who they suit

Tours are the easiest, lowest-entry option and act as the cheapest way into Mae Wang’s offerings. Outdoor & sports activities sit at the higher end and also show the widest range of prices, making them suitable for travellers seeking either mid-range or premium experiences. Water activities occupy a mid position on price and appeal to visitors after a compact, activity-focused outing.
