What a fantastic day trip! In the morning, we rode the famous Puffing Billy steam train, traveling through the forest and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. We also experienced the unique thrill of dangling our legs out of the carriage. In the evening, we visited Penguin Island to watch the little penguins return to their nests. Groups of adorable little penguins waddled from the sea back to their burrows, creating a heartwarming and unforgettable scene. Special thanks to our tour guide, whose service was incredibly professional, enthusiastic, and attentive. Throughout the journey, they not only provided detailed introductions to each attraction but also shared many interesting facts. They constantly looked after the needs of the group members, making the entire itinerary very smooth and relaxed. The steam train and the penguin parade are both highly recommended experiences, and with the guidance of an excellent tour guide, this trip was even more perfect. I strongly recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne!

We really enjoyed this tour! The main highlight was the adorable penguins returning from the ocean! It was fascinating to see them return to shore and waddle towards their homes. Some even climbed up the mountains to get to them. We highly recommend going on this tour with Go West.

the arrangement is good in general, but there is insufficient time for us to explore the park at lakeside station. the tour guide even stopped the bus for us to watch the kangaroo in Philip island!

Matt has been fabulous as a guide. Shared important info on the trip to puffing billy and Phillips island. Recommended food options available during stops which I felt the timing given to enjoy each experience of the day trip fantastic. A little disappointed that I didn't get to witness a larger group of the blue penguins coming out of the sea, but along the walking track, did see many instances of the little cuties.

Phillip Island: Top Things to See and Do

Phillip Island Penguin Parade

The Phillip Island Penguin Parade is the island's most famous attraction. Each evening at Summerland Beach, visitors gather to watch hundreds of little penguins emerge from the sea after a day of fishing. This magical wildlife experience is a highlight of any Phillip Island tour and offers a rare chance to connect with nature while supporting vital conservation and research programs run by Phillip Island Nature Parks.

Seal Rocks and The Nobbies Centre

Visit the Nobbies Centre for boardwalk views across rugged coastlines and out to Seal Rocks, home to Australia's largest colony of fur seals. The lookout platforms are also ideal for spotting seabirds and migrating whales in season.

Koala Conservation Reserve

Stroll along treetop boardwalks where you can see koalas in their natural habitat. The reserve focuses on preserving native flora and vegetation, offering a safe refuge for wildlife and a chance to learn about how rangers respond to threats facing koalas on the mainland.

Churchill Island Heritage Farm

Step back in time at the Churchill Island Heritage Farm, where you can explore historic buildings, walk through heritage gardens, and learn about Victoria's early farming practices. This cultural site provides a unique backdrop for families and history enthusiasts, blending colonial heritage with stunning coastal scenery.

Cape Woolamai and National Surfing Reserve

Cape Woolamai, home to a National Surfing Reserve, is a haven for surfers, hikers, and nature lovers. Its rugged cliffs, granite headlands, and dramatic views make it one of Phillip Island's most iconic landscapes. Scenic walking tracks wind past native flora and vegetation, providing excellent opportunities to spot seabirds and migrating whales during the summer months.

Wildlife and Surfing at Cat Bay

Located near Summerland Beach, Cat Bay is another must-visit location. With calm conditions compared to Cape Woolamai, it's perfect for beginner surfers. The bay is also an important environment for marine life, with conservation measures in place to protect threatened species and respond to predators that impact local wildlife.
