Fantastic 5.0
The guide came on time and pick us up at the hotel lobby, straight to the sticky waterfall. English speaking guide made it easy to communicate 👍🏻 We had our own time at the sticky waterfall, and its an amazing experience! There's 4 waterfalls in total, and you can hike all the way up with bare foot and its definitely one of a kind! A must do activity once you're in Chiang Mai ✨

Fantastic 5.0
They picked us up early in the morning, even before the scheduled time, and we were able to visit all the tourist spots smoothly! The weather was great, and seeing the sunrise in such a magical way was truly wonderful. We finished earlier than planned, and it was great that the tour was so fulfilling in just three and a half hours.

Fantastic 5.0
Because it rained for the entire 3-hour hike that day, pay extra attention to the trail conditions. However, regarding sections requiring hands and feet, I think children over 10 years old could also climb it if the weather is better. The guide will pay attention to the trail conditions along the way and clear obstacles in advance. The scenery is beautiful. If you want to spend half a day experiencing Chiang Mai's nature, it is highly recommended. We left the city at around 9:30 am and returned to the city at 3:30 pm. During that time, we first visited Doi Suthep Temple, then started the 3-hour hike, and finally ended at a cozy cafe with coffee and food. After resting for an hour, we drove back. It is recommended to bring mosquito repellent, a change of clothes, enough water, and a raincoat.

I had an amazing time at this Muay Thai class! It was so much fun and a great experience, even for beginners. The trainer was very friendly, patient, and professional, and he explained each movement clearly. I learned proper techniques while also getting a great workout. The atmosphere was welcoming and motivating. I truly enjoyed every minute and would definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

Very fun and rewarding! The instructor can clearly communicate instructions in basic English. The one-hour lesson includes warm-up, basic movements, hitting the punching bag, and even a light sparring session in the ring at the end. Very comprehensive! Highly recommended 👍

I’m a beginner for Muay Thai but have some kickboxing experience and I was able to talk to them about learning certain Muay Thai techniques and they had me training in it! correcting my American kick box posture to the Thai ones. you should do it at least once! it would’ve been great to keep training with them :) bring water and mentally prep to work tf out!!!

What to know before visiting Chiang Mai Province

Chiang Mai Travel Guide: Things to Do, Attractions & Tours

Chiang Mai is widely known as the cultural capital of northern Thailand, where centuries-old temples, creative neighborhoods, mountain landscapes, and a relaxed modern lifestyle blend seamlessly. Located in Chiang Mai Province, the city offers travelers a slower, more immersive experience compared with Thailand’s coastal resorts or fast-paced capitals. From the historic city walls of the Old City to the cafés and design hubs near Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai feels both timeless and contemporary. It is also a gateway to scenic mountains, waterfalls, hill-tribe villages, and national parks, making it ideal for short stays or extended exploration. Whether you are here to explore famous temples, eat Thai food, relax with Thai massage, or plan day trips around northern Thailand, Chiang Mai City provides a balanced mix of culture, cuisine, and nature.

Why Visit Chiang Mai

Travelers visit Chiang Mai for a deeper connection to Thai culture, history, and everyday life. Once the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, the city still preserves its heritage through architecture, festivals, and community traditions. Compared with Bangkok or Phuket, Chiang Mai offers a calmer pace, walkable streets, and closer access to mountains, forests, and ethical elephant sanctuaries. The food scene ranges from classic Thai food and street food to hip restaurants and modern cafés, while the creative scene showcases Chiang Mai City arts, traditional crafts, and independent art galleries. For travelers seeking cultural depth, diverse cultures, and meaningful experiences, Thailand Chiang Mai delivers authenticity without sacrificing comfort.

Best Areas and Top Attractions in Chiang Mai

Old City (Historic Center)

The Old City is the heart of Chiang Mai, surrounded by ancient city walls and dotted with some of the most important temples in northern Thailand. Highlights include Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Suan Dok, and Wat Phan Tao, each offering insight into Lanna history, architecture, and spiritual life. Visitors can explore the inner city on foot, as many landmarks are within walking distance. The area also hosts the popular Sunday Night Market, filling streets with food stalls, crafts, and live music. Key landmarks such as Tha Phae Gate, the Three Kings Monument, and the nearby Kings Monument make this the cultural center of Chiang Mai City and one of the best locations for first-time travelers.

Nimmanhaemin (Modern Chiang Mai)

Nimmanhaemin or Nimman Road, near Chiang Mai University, is the city’s creative and lifestyle district. Known for cool cafes, shopping malls, design boutiques, and a strong digital-nomad community, this area blends modern living with artistic expression. You will find art galleries, coworking spaces, nightlife, and diverse food options, making it popular with younger travelers, remote workers, and those seeking contemporary experiences in Chiang Mai Thailand.

Riverside & Chang Klan

Stretching along the Ping River, this area offers resorts, boutique hotels, riverside dining, and easy access to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. The night bazaar comes alive after sunset with handicrafts, souvenirs, food stalls, and live performances. It is a convenient base for guests looking for comfort, scenic views, and nightlife while remaining close to the city center.

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is one of the city’s most popular evening attractions, stretching along Chang Klan Road near the river. After sunset, the area fills with stalls selling handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing, artwork, and street food. Visitors can browse, dine, and enjoy live performances in a lively atmosphere that reflects the city’s blend of tourism, culture, and local life.

Sunday Walking Street (Old City)

Held every Sunday evening, this massive street market transforms the Old City’s main roads into a pedestrian-only festival of food, art, and music. Visitors can sample northern Thai dishes, browse handmade crafts, watch street performances, and interact with local artisans. It is one of the best ways to experience Chiang Mai’s creative energy and community spirit.

Doi Inthanon National Park

Known as “the Roof of Thailand,” Doi Inthanon National Park is home to the country’s highest mountain. Located just outside Chiang Mai, it offers waterfalls, cloud forests, scenic viewpoints, and hiking trails. Highlights include the Twin Royal Pagodas, nature walks, and visits to hill-tribe villages. The park is ideal for travelers seeking nature, fresh air, and a break from the city.

Elephant Sanctuaries (Ethical Experiences)

Chiang Mai is a leading destination for ethical elephant tourism. Reputable sanctuaries focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and observation rather than riding or performances. Visitors can learn about elephant care, feed them, walk alongside them in natural environments, and support conservation efforts. These experiences offer meaningful wildlife encounters while promoting responsible tourism.

Bua Thong “Sticky” Waterfalls

Located outside the city, these unique limestone waterfalls allow visitors to climb directly up the rock surface thanks to the naturally non-slip texture. Surrounded by forest, the site is popular for day trips, combining light adventure with refreshing nature. It is a favorite spot for families, photographers, and travelers seeking something different from temple sightseeing.

Chiang Mai Zoo & Night Safari

The Chiang Mai Night Safari offers a wildlife experience where visitors can observe animals in naturalistic settings after dark. Tram rides pass through different zones, allowing close-up views of nocturnal species. The park is especially popular with families and those traveling with children.

Ping River & Riverside Dining

The Ping River flows through Chiang Mai, creating a relaxed atmosphere along its banks. Riverside restaurants, hotels, and cafés offer scenic dining and sunset views. Boat rides and evening strolls provide a quieter alternative to the busy markets and streets, highlighting the city’s more tranquil side.

Wat Sri Suphan (Silver Temple)

Wat Sri Suphan stands out for its intricate silver, aluminum, and nickel decorations covering both the exterior and interior. Built in a historic silversmith community, the temple showcases detailed craftsmanship depicting Buddhist stories and modern themes. It is one of Chiang Mai’s most visually distinctive temples and an important symbol of local artistry.

Doi Suthep–Pui National Park

Beyond the famous temple, this protected area offers hiking trails, waterfalls, viewpoints, and access to Hmong villages. Doi Suthep provides an easy escape into nature just minutes from the city, making it perfect for travelers who want outdoor experiences without long travel times.
