Highly recommend this cooking class if you’re in chiang mai, the day started with a pickup and visit to the market where our very charismatic and hilarious leader, Nook, showed us all the ingredients and told us about how they are used. We were given some time to explore the market and were even invited to try some delicious thai snacks (We had coconut pancakes that were absolutely devine) - Next we were taken to the class where we were shown how to make all the classics, you get to choose between three choices for three courses and I chose coconut soup, massaman curry and krapoow which all turned out pretty great which is a sign of how good the class is because i’m not a great cook lol. The space is so cute too with a garden and turtles you can feed. Half day class was perfect and we even learned to make mango sticky rice and thai tea.
This was a truly wonderful experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. The pickup service was very friendly. After picking up other participants along the way, we were taken to a local market (the kind only locals frequent). There, we could see local ingredients and learn about them from our instructor. We were given a short time to walk around and try some snacks (at our own expense). These snacks had a very authentic, non-touristy flavor, including the prices. Upon arriving at the classroom, after selecting the dishes we would be making (choosing one different dish from three categories), we were led to the vegetable garden to do some simple harvesting, and to touch and learn about ingredients (basil, pea eggplant – which tasted like cucumber? – and butterfly pea flower) and their aromas. Although the time was short, it was very informative, and it was fun to feed the tortoises along the way. Next, we learned how to make our own Thai milk tea (with the freedom to adjust the flavor). It was wonderful to sip on the Thai tea while cooking during the rest of the class. We cooked one soup, one stir-fry, and one curry. Following the instructor's guidance, we adjusted the amount of spices, and the explanations were very easy to understand. Everything we cooked could be eaten, and we could get more rice if needed. The dessert was mango sticky rice (the instructor said it was different from what's sold outside). The handmade, stir-fried version was truly much more delicious than what you find in night markets. It felt like this was what real mango sticky rice should taste like. Afterward, they drove us back, concluding the day's class. It was very interesting and definitely worth trying (the evening class is more comfortable). During the breaks for market visits or meals, the staff were quickly preparing the selected ingredients, making the cooking process very smooth. For example, after finishing a dish and placing it on the dining table, we would return to the cooking station to find the cookware already replaced, ensuring the cooking process was only enjoyable, without any tiring or frustrating moments.
it was an amazing experience and the people who helped us from teacher Nook and her team including our driver was very helpful. The pickup and drop off from our hotel was very really nice. Highly recommended for the whole family. Teacher kept the mood of all the participants in good spirits. We wish we could do it again. we will try all the recipes we cooked back home🇺🇸. Thank you
If you wanna try cooking Thai food with lots of options, this is highly recommended. Here’s our timeline: 9:11am Hotel pickup by songthaew (they did not contact us btw, we just asked the songthaew driver if they are picking up for Mama Noi cooking class), 9:24am Sanpakhoi market tour, 10am back to Songthaew, 10:06am Arrival at Mama Noi + picking of food to cook, 10:35 garden tour (need insect repellent lotion here), 11am start of cooking class, 12:20 lunch, 12:43 dessert making (mango sticky rice & thai milk tea), 1:15pm end of class & return to Songthaew.
what a great experience this was! from the hotel pickup to the mango sticky rice it was great. on the way to the school, we stopped at a market to see some of the ingredients we would be using. when we got to the school, we each got to choose 3 dishes to make (all with a vegetarian option) - one stir fry, one soup and one curry. Our air conditioned group all chose different dishes but Chef Nook walked us through the prep and cooking seemlessly with enthusiasm and humor. everything turned out great - the only bad thing was that I hadn’t come hungry enough to eat all that I prepared. make sure to come hungry! dinner was topped of with making and eating mango sticky rice - yum!
Mama Moi, a Northern Thai cooking class full of youthful energy. A young team leads travelers from all over the world on a three-hour journey to visit a local Chiang Mai market, learn about ingredients, step into the brand's farm, touch and smell the aroma of local spices, and through a simple but intuitive cooking experience, create their own Northern Thai dishes. Facilities: Clean, tidy, and systematically complete. As long as you follow the teacher's steps, it is absolutely impossible to make a mistake. Safety: Although it is a cooking class that requires the use of stoves and knives, the teacher gives instructions one at a time, progressing through the course in a calm and orderly manner, so there is no need to worry about being a cooking novice. Location: Although remote, it feels like a paradise. No matter which corner of Chiang Mai you live in, there is a private car for round-trip transportation, providing extremely considerate service.
This was an amazing experience. first - you are taken to the local market and you can see the local ingredients and have a short time to walk around by yourself. once taken to the location you are taken to the garden to try local herbs and learn more. it is quick but informative. then you can select one of 3 different dishes in 3 categories - you cook each one soup, one stir fry and o e curry. you can adjust level of spices yourself and the instructions are easy to follow. everything is explained and well prepared for you. they ensure that cooking is safe. additionally you learn how to make Thai tea as well. everything you cook you then eat. for dessert you make mango sticky rice. if you can finish your dishes you then can take them to-go. you are dropped off again to your selected location. fun and definitely something to do (I recommend evening class!)
They picked me up in front of the hotel in the morning, and there was time to visit the local market and do some shopping. When cooking, we cooked pre-prepared ingredients, so we could quickly make three dishes. It was quite filling. I couldn't finish everything, but I was able to take the last dessert home with me. It was fun to cook with a cheerful and lively atmosphere! They took a lot of pictures for me. *However, I don't know how to download them. The link was sent, but it didn't work no matter how many times I tried. I contacted them, but I am disappointed that I have not received a reply.
Such a great class!! We had the funniest instructor Satong “Money” and she definitely made the experience one to remember. We loved how all the ingredients were explained to us and that many of the herbs came straight from Mama Noi’s garden. Such a great experience that’s so worth the price!
I booked the morning class on January 31st and enjoyed every minute of it. Tida (I hope I have her name right) was an excellent instructor who explained everything in great detail, from the market tour to the main course and dessert. Meeting fellow culinary students from around the world made the experience even more special. This is definitely an activity worth considering if you’d like to showcase your new culinary skills back home. I was impress by their garden.
