Fantastic 5.0
The driver was very nice. We didn't know we'd pass a huge torii gate along the way, and she specifically pointed it out to us. Luckily, we made a detour to take photos; otherwise, we would have almost missed an interesting sight! 😆

We used 3 sightseeing passes: Kurashiki, Okayama Castle, and Okayama Ichibangai. We didn't use the Korakuen Garden pass because it was too hot to walk that day. For Kurashiki, remember to exchange your pass at the tourist information center to the right after exiting the station. For Okayama Castle, you can exchange your pass directly at the ticket counter and also use it for ice cream on the first floor. For the Ichibangai pass, you need to exchange it at the information desk. Using the pass at ABC Mart to buy shoes and getting two 3,000 yen discounts at once was a really great deal.

Fantastic 5.0
This historic castle, located in the heart of Okayama City, is also known as "Crow Castle." Its interior has been renovated into a museum, housing artifacts from the Sengoku period. From the top floor of the main keep, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city, the moat, and Korakuen Garden.

Fantastic 5.0
The shop is not far from the riverside in Kurashiki, located on the second floor of a clothing store. The owner is very kind and attentive. Although she doesn't speak Chinese, we were able to communicate using Google Translate and simple English. All the kimonos in the shop are beautiful, and the owner's skillful hands can make your hairstyle look amazing. Considering the price and the results, I highly recommend it! It was very hot that day, and the owner thoughtfully lent us an umbrella, which we really appreciated.

What to know before visiting Okayama

Top experiences to book in Okayama through the year

Okayama’s top bookings are dominated by attraction passes, followed by historical sites, with tours and museums completing the mix. Demand peaks in March and is lowest in January, so the rhythm of the year matters when planning which experiences to prioritise.

Best activities for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find attraction passes especially handy for packing multiple sights into a short stay, while museums and historical sites offer easy, child-friendly learning stops. Couples can lean into historical sites and curated tours for more intimate, local storytelling and photo opportunities. Solo and small-group travellers often favour tours for the widest range of options, from budget choices to more premium, specialist outings.

What travellers from the Philippines tend to book ahead

Most bookings here are flexible: typical planning happens close to travel, so many activities can be picked up a day or two before you go, though the earliest planners still book in advance. Booking ahead matters most in the peak month of March, when demand is noticeably higher.

How categories compare by price and who they suit

Historical sites are the easiest, most budget-friendly way into Okayama’s offerings, while attraction passes sit at a modest mid-range level and are the practical choice for visitors wanting breadth. Tours are the priciest on average and show the widest spread of options — they suit travellers looking for anything from low-cost group outings to premium, specialised experiences. Museums sit toward the lower end of the price scale and are a nice fit for curious visitors and families seeking quieter, educational stops.
