    With its spectacular scenery, lush mountains and forests, and clear cerulean seas, Bali is a paradise that everyone should discover and explore. Because of its breathtaking views and tranquil surroundings, Bali became a go-to place for self-retreats and wellness weekends. Aside from this, the Indonesian province is also regarded for being an excellent surfing destination. In fact, although Bali has dry and wet seasons, surfing waves could be done all year round. So if you’re a surfer looking to ride the tides on your next visit to Bali, here are some great surfing spots.

    1. Canggu

    Canggu is located on the south coast of Bali. A crucial part of Bali tourism, there are different wave types in this area namely Pererenan, Canggu River Mouth, The Sandbar, Echo Beach Left, Batu Bolong, and Oldman’s. Only the Batu Bolong and Oldman’s are fit for beginners, while the rest have an intermediate level of difficulty. Surfing lessons and surf camps are also available in Canggu in case you want to learn about surfing waves.

    2. Uluwatu

    Get ready to ride tall tides at the Uluwatu, which is located in the Bukit Peninsula of the Indonesian province. Greatly contributing to Bali tourism, the place is famous for surfing waves as the tides here could reach as high as 15 to 20 feet. Fit for advanced surfers, the waves here have five breaks namely Bombie, Temples, Outside Corner, Racetracks, and The Peak. Waves could build up as high as 15 feet in Outside Corner, and as tall as 20 feet in Bombie. Whew!

    3. Keramas

    Have a blast surfing waves with both locals and tourists at the incredibly popular surf spot Keramas, which is a black-sand beach in Gianyar, Bali. The Keramas is regarded for producing great right-handers. Wave size could range from small swells to double overhead, depending on the location. Because of its top performing waves, the place could get a little crowded so early mornings would be your best bet if you want to come and surf.

    4. Balangan Beach

    If you are a beginner who wants to try surfing waves when in Bali, you could opt for the Balangan Beach where waves could be relatively small, about three to five feet. However, there is a spot for advanced surfers too, where waves could get as high as 15 feet. They say the best time to surf here would be during the months of April to October. Moreover, Balangan Beach, which is located in the Bukit Peninsula, south of Bali, is also popular for its white sands where you could lounge and sunbathe while you watch people surfing waves.

    5. Kuta Beach

    If you are looking for a generally safe and conservative place to surf, then the Kuta, which is a sand-bottom beach, should be on top of your surfing list. Suitable for beginners and for those who would like to learn about surfing waves, Kuta is located in the bustling southern part of the province, giving life to Bali tourism. With mid to high tides, the waves here could range from two to six feet tall.

    6. Bingin Beach

    Praised for its clear waters, Bingin, which is a tide-sensitive beach, is situated in the Pecatu Village in South Bali. With powerful waves produced from left-handed barrels, this beach is fit for experienced surfers. It has a sharp reef break and reef bottom so it is necessary to wait for high tide before surfing waves at this beach. The recommendable surfing time here would be during Bali’s dry season, around April to October, for bigger waves.

    7. Nusa Dua

    Looking for a less crowded place for surfing waves? Then you may want to consider the Nusa Dua area in the southeast part of Bali where luxury resorts are plenty. However, this place is suitable for intermediate and experienced surfers. It has reef breaks with reef bottoms. March is said to be the best time of the year to surf in the Nusa Dua area.

    8. Medewi

    Focus on surfing waves in the sleepy beach of Medewi where it is also less crowded. Regarded for being one of the longest left-handers in Bali, this beach has a river mouth type of wave, with a beginner and intermediate level of difficulty. As the shore and waters have cobbles, it also has a cobblestone bottom. With a rocky black-sand beach, this place is described to have a Southern California vibe.
