Peak Tram Hong Kong Closure 2019
The popular Hong Kong Peak Tram will be undergoing some works to facilitate expansion and will soon be temporarily closed. If you were planning a trip up to the Peak, don’t worry! Here’s what you need to know about the peak tram closure.
The Peak Tram in Hong Kong will be closed starting from 23 April 2019 for a period of 2-3 months with no fixed date for reopening released yet. However, The Peak Tower and Sky Terrace 428 will remain open during the temporary suspension period. Why is the Peak Tram closing?
With plans to upgrade the current tramcars from a capacity of 120 passengers to 210 passengers, this will mean shorter queues for everyone! There are also plans to completely refurbish the upper and lower termini to make the waiting experience more pleasant.
Getting to the Peak via Klook Shuttle Bus
In lieu of the Peak Tram closure, Klook has launched several initiatives to help travellers reach the top of the Peak.

By Public Bus:
You can opt for the following public buses to get to the top:
- Special Route No. X15 between Admiralty (West) Bus Terminus (near MTRAdmiralty Station Exit B) and The Peak
- Route No. 15 (Central (Central Ferry Piers) / Exchange Square – The Peak);
- Route No. 15B (Wan Chai (Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition CentreExtension) – The Peak) – service on Sundays and Public Holidays only
- Hong Kong Island Green Minibus Route No. 1 (Central (Hong Kong Station PublicTransport Interchange) – The Peak);

Hiking to The Peak
There are 3 different routes to hike up to The Peak :
- Start at the Mid Level Escalators to Conduit Road and walk till Hatton Road. From there, you’ll start heading up to the top and the path is all flat throughout and pretty comfortable to walk. It will take you about 90 minutes.
- You can also choose to wander through the Hong Kong Botanic Gardens and start your accent from Old Peak Road and follow the route above from there. This will take you an additional 30-45 minutes.
- The quietest and greenest route starts at the tram stop at MacDonnell Road and there are signs pointing the way up. It trails the tram line up so you can expect plenty of green all around.
Bonus: Kala Toast
Also located at The Peak is the Instagram famous Kala Toast! Made from 100% cheese, the cheeses are colored with natural foods like beetroot to give off their rainbow colors. Each colored cheese has a unique flavour and tastes even better than it looks.
