Peak Tram Hong Kong Closure 2019

The popular Hong Kong Peak Tram will be undergoing some works to facilitate expansion and will soon be temporarily closed. If you were planning a trip up to the Peak, don’t worry! Here’s what you need to know about the peak tram closure.
The Peak Tram in Hong Kong will be closed starting from 23 April 2019 for a period of 2-3 months with no fixed date for reopening released yet. However, The Peak Tower and Sky Terrace 428 will remain open during the temporary suspension period. Klook has set up exclusive packages during this closure period to ensure that you can still make your way to the top, we are even offering an extra Hong Kong Observation Wheel admission to make it worth your while.

Why is the Peak Tram closing?

With plans to upgrade the current tramcars from a capacity of 120 passengers to 210 passengers, this will mean shorter queues for everyone! There are also plans to completely refurbish the upper and lower termini to make the waiting experience more pleasant.

Getting to the Peak via Klook Shuttle Bus

In lieu of the Peak Tram closure, Klook has launched several initiatives to help travellers reach the top of the Peak.
If you plan on visiting the Peak and the Sky Terrace 428, pre-book a Peak and Sky Terrace combo on Klook that includes a shuttle bus to the top. The combo also includes a guided tour of the Hong Kong Observation Wheel
If you plan on visiting the Peak, Sky Terrace 428 and Madame Tussauds, opt for the 4 in 1 combo where you’ll get a one-way shuttle bus from Central to the Peak, Hong Kong Observation Wheel Ticket, Sky Terrace 428 Entry, a Madame Tussauds admission ticket and tour guide service
If you’re too lazy to make your own way down, there is also a Peak downhill bus to Wan Chai station.
    By Public Bus:
You can opt for the following public buses to get to the top:

    Hiking to The Peak
There are 3 different routes to hike up to The Peak :
    1. Start at the Mid Level Escalators to Conduit Road and walk till Hatton Road. From there, you’ll start heading up to the top and the path is all flat throughout and pretty comfortable to walk. It will take you about 90 minutes.
    2. You can also choose to wander through the Hong Kong Botanic Gardens and start your accent from Old Peak Road and follow the route above from there. This will take you an additional 30-45 minutes.
    3. The quietest and greenest route starts at the tram stop at MacDonnell Road and there are signs pointing the way up. It trails the tram line up so you can expect plenty of green all around.

    Bonus: Kala Toast

Also located at The Peak is the Instagram famous Kala Toast! Made from 100% cheese, the cheeses are colored with natural foods like beetroot to give off their rainbow colors. Each colored cheese has a unique flavour and tastes even better than it looks.
Plus, since it’s located at The Peak, it makes for a great photo! Don’t forget to pre-book your Kala toast combos before heading down.
