Mike Chen did the Big Binondo Food Wok – and this is what he loved

If there’s one food vlogger that you should be following right now – it’s got to be Mike Chen, also known as @StrictlyDumpling. With both a strong passion for food, and hunger for knowledge – he’s our go-to guy for any food cravings we’re having, wherever we are in the world!
Together with Klook, Mike Chen hit the streets of the historic Binondo, aka Chinatown, in Manila for a food experience like no other. With an empty stomach and a camera on hand, Mike checked out some of Binondo’s best eats – and we’ve got the list!

    1. Lumpia Sariwa from New Po Heng Lumpia House (Lumpia Sariwa)

By its very name, New Po Heng Lumpia House is known for its delicious Chinese-style fresh lumpia called the Lumpia Sariwa. To the uninitiated, lumpia is made out of a thin wrapper enveloping a mixture of minced fillings – almost mimicking a burrito. In this case, New Po Heng Lumpia House’s famous dish is made out of 80% vegetables, which led Mike Chen to note that it might just be the healthiest burrito you’ll eat!

    2. Quik Snack (Indonesia Tauhu and Sotanghon)

Quik Snack is a Binondo food crawl staple – not only because it’s accounted for as one of the oldest establishments in the area, but because of its delectable selection of home-cooked Tsinoy food.
The foodie expert tried two new dishes: the Indonesian Tauhu and Sotanghon, both which got the Strictly Dumpling seal of approval! Although often packed with people all throughout the day, if Mike Chen says that he would go back to the Philippines for this, then it’s definitely worth lining up for.

    3. Ho-Land Hopia and Bakery (Empanada)

Who doesn’t love empanadas? These breaded goodies are the perfect savory snack – and we know where Mike Chen found his favorite ones in Binondo – Ho-Land Hopia and Bakery!
This juicy, savory treat is offered in various options at Ho-Land Hopia and Bakery! Choose between a Beef Empanada or the Kuchay Ah and be sure to take some home!

    4. Awi’s Cafe & Restaurant (Lobihon)

This unassuming modern Chinese cafe in Yuchengco Street creates the most delectable twists to traditional Chinese food that’ll surely make your mouth water. Just check out Mike’s reaction to crowd-favorite Lobihon soup! Pure ecstasy.

    5. Sincerity Restaurant and Cafe (Kikiam)

Although you’ll find Sincerity Restaurant put up some stalls in the malls – nothing beats the original in Binondo. At this popular hub, the Binondo Food Wok tour guide urged Mike to try their famous Kikiam dish. That he did, and it earned a Swipe Right declaration from the foodie master!

    6. Dong Bei Dumpling (Pork Dumplings)

It’s safe to say that Mr. Strictly Dumpling himself has got pretty high standards when it comes to dumplings. So during his Binondo food walk, he definitely had to try some of the best in the area.
According to Ivan, the Binondo Food Wok guide, you can find the best Pork Dumplings at Dong Bei Dumpling. Fortunately, this recommendation did not fail the dumpling king – who couldn’t stop gushing over how good it was!

    7. Eng Bee Tin (Hopia)

What’s a Chinatown food walk without the Tsinoy-favorite Hopia? Ivan took Mike Chen to Eng Bee Tin to try out this popular Filipino-Chinese delicacy, and our favorite foodie gave it a thumbs up! That said, if you’re looking for hopia for your next family gathering – this is where it’s at!
