It was always my dream to take a cooking class while traveling abroad, and I finally made it happen. I was so grateful that they didn't cancel the class, even though I was the only one who booked today. The instructor was incredibly kind and made the class very enjoyable. Even though my English isn't great, they explained everything clearly. The market and neighborhood tour, along with the history lessons, were also really interesting. When I mentioned I don't like meat soup, they immediately adjusted the recipe for me. They said they would accommodate such requests even if there were multiple participants, so I encourage picky eaters like me to give it a try. Also, while daikon greens are usually discarded, they created a pickle side dish on the spot when I mentioned we eat them in Korea. They even prepared ice today, which they don't normally do, because a Korean traveler booked and they anticipated I might ask for an iced Americano. How thoughtful! I highly recommend this to other Korean travelers. They also diligently took many photos and videos throughout the class. The space itself is also very beautiful.
Alex told us old village stories and Taiwanese folk tales while touring the town. The kitchen roll and braised tofu (?) he bought during the market tour were also delicious. He explained everything very easily and well. The cooking was fun, and the kitchen was cool and very clean. He offered tea or coffee from time to time, and cola and beer were provided during the tasting after the cooking was done. I highly recommend this to those who want a special experience during their trip to Taiwan.
today, I cooked rice noodles and squid soup. Alex, our expert chef and tour guide was the best…He is very approachable and answers all my questions about all things Taiwan, it’s culture, and food history. I went to a traditional market where I got to learn about the different vegetables, meat, and spices used for Taiwan’s local dishes. The cooking space was very clean and inviting with all the equipment and supplies you need.Alex was a very great instructor and had all the patience to make sure I made my best dishes…I highly recommend everyone come here immediately!
Alex was super friendly! It was just me and my husband for the class. He brought us around Di Hua street, Taipei bridge and explained the history behind the area. We went to the wet market and even tried some snacks, he was friends with all the shop owners (whose been there for generations). Wont be ingredient sourcing at the wet markets since it’s all prepped in advance but more to understand local food and culture. But Alex was patient and understanding, defo knows the area well. Kitchen space was cosy and welcoming, clean and well organised. He used to be a service instructor in the aviation industry and pivoted during the pandemic. 10/10 would come back again to learn other dishes from him and support small local businesses! He also helped us take so many photos and videos :)
it was really a fun learning experience cooking taiwanese food. even thought it was really raining hard that day we still enjoyed going around the neighborhood and the market.
This was more than just 'a step by step guide' on how to make noodles, but an experience to have. From walking the streets of Dadaocheng to the cooking table filled with ingredients, Alex was a good knowledgeable host whom we'd recommend anytime! good experience overall.
I participated in the beef noodle making class. Although I'm not good at English, Alex is very kind and explains things in an easy-to-understand way. Exploring the city's history and wandering through the market was so much fun!!! Alex takes a lot of photos, so I can concentrate on cooking.
Teacher Alex explains the history of Dadaocheng attentively and teaches seriously in class. He takes you to a nearby vegetable market to buy vegetables. He teaches you the safe way to hold a knife and how to cut vegetables. He is very patient and gives you peace of mind even if you don’t have a basic knowledge. It is very suitable for Taiwanese and foreign tourists who are interested in Taiwanese food~~
A very fun experience, suitable for solo travelers, friends, or couples! You can sightsee, learn about the local culture, and learn to make beef noodles. The lunch you make yourself is also very delicious. Even beginners can succeed, and the teacher is very careful~
My cooking class experience in Taipei's Dihua Street was incredibly valuable and enjoyable! Alex's tour and guidance of Dihua Street were also very informative. Even those who aren't confident cooks can feel at ease because he adjusts the pace to suit everyone. Plus, they even provide take-out containers for any leftovers! This event is full of amazing service, and I'd love to participate again if I have the chance! Thank you!
