Long Bar at Raffles Hotel
- The historic Long Bar continues its proud tradition as the Home of the Singapore Sling. The famous counter shines like new amidst decor that marries architecture and contemporary plantation-inspired motifs.
- The Singapore Sling, widely regarded as the national drink, was first created in 1915 by Raffles bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. Primarily a gin-based cocktail, the Singapore Sling also contains pineapple juice, lime juice, curaçao and Bénédictine. Giving it the pretty pink hue are grenadine and cherry liqueur. Bartender Ngiam deliberately chose to give the cocktail this rosy colour. Why? Find out more at the Long Bar.
- Long Bar is open to walk-ins only.
What to expect
Long Bar was located at Cad’s Alley in the early 1900s. At a time when improved rail and road systems brought rubber and palm oil plantation owners over to Singapore from Malaya every weekend, it was known as the ‘Rendezvous of Planters’. Not a formal bar, but rather tables placed next to another facing Bras Basah Road, it was a vantage point from which male visitors surveyed the procession of ladies.
The earthy decor of the two-storey Long Bar is inspired by Malayan life in the 1920s. The deep, rich colours and lush greenery transport patrons to the edge of a tropical plantation. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the table and bar counter to the floor. This is quite possibly the only place in Singapore where littering is encouraged.

If you're traveling to Singapore, this is a must-visit place! The Singapore Sling is a must-try drink, and this is the original location, so visiting it is a travel course in itself. The Singapore Sling is also available in non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions, so you can choose according to your preference. The atmosphere is lively, so just sitting there makes you feel good. They serve peanuts as a basic appetizer, and the amount is truly enormous. The peanuts don't seem to decrease no matter how much you eat, which is also fun. They're salty and delicious, and it's unique that you can just throw the shells on the floor after eating. At first, I hesitated, but soon I got used to it and ate a peanut or two more for the fun of throwing them away, lol.
We had a fantastic time at the iconic Long Bar in Raffles! The Singapore Slings were so so good and the bag of peanuts is huge too! The bar is beautifully decorated and the service was fantastic, definitely recommend a visit here!
Second visit! Brought a friend for afternoon tea. Besides ordering the signature Singapore Slinger, we spontaneously ordered a Half Yard long beer. We ate all the peanuts, chatted until we were sleepy, and scrolled on our phones until they died. The Long Bar doesn't rush you. First come, first served (we arrived in the afternoon, around 2-4 pm, both times). It's nice and cool inside the bar, and the electric fans are so cute. It's really nice to chill here in the afternoon for a drink!
Walk-in only so no reservations needed, but be prepared to wait in line to get a seat. Yummy and very easy to redeem. Throw some peanuts
The long-awaited Raffles Hotel. It was very nice. Directions to the Long Bar were displayed in various places in the hotel. I went there after 4pm and it was quite crowded. However, they checked the number of people early on and guided me smoothly.

Great discovery, friendly staff and very tasty cocktails
yes, it's pricey. but it was delicious and the bartenders were so friendly. we went on a weekday night and there was no queue. we sat and talked for an hour, so we felt like it was worth our time. also, the drink definitely isn't weak just because it's so sweet.
The bit of history has helped it become a tourist attraction. A commendable effort to preserve the looks and heritage. The drink is good. quite sweet and lacks the alcohol punch as it is meant to be. got some time to get used to dropping the peanut shells down. I went there alone and managed to find some company which was fantastic. a great bar experience
Second visit! After lunch, in addition to ordering the signature Singapore Sling, I spontaneously added a Half Yard long beer. It was so comfortable and pleasant to eat peanuts to your heart's content~ The Long Bar doesn't rush people, first come, first served (both times we arrived in the afternoon, around 2-4pm, and there was no waiting in line at all)! The bar is a great summer retreat, so cool~
