*[09:00] Take the ropeway up the mountain - Tianmen Cave Square - You can choose to take the mountain-piercing escalator up or challenge the 999 steps to reach "Tianmen Cave" (Heaven-Linking Cave) - Cliff-hanging glass walkway - Yunmeng Fairy Summit

A one-day self-guided tour of Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area (Route B) was truly a breathtaking journey. Taking the world's longest high-altitude ropeway slowly up the mountain, I overlooked Zhangjiajie city and the valley, with clouds and mist swirling like a fairyland. The ropeway wound its way up, and the views gradually opened up, with distant mountains like paintings and nearby scenery like screens, filling me with joy. Upon reaching the summit, the magnificent Tianmen Cave came into view—a colossal natural stone archway, awe-inspiring and a testament to nature's extraordinary craftsmanship.
Walking on the glass skywalk was a heart-pounding challenge. Beneath my feet, a sheer drop offered both thrill and excitement, while also providing stunning views of the valley. The design of the pathways along the route was well-planned, allowing for both thrilling experiences and safe enjoyment of the scenery. Following Route B, I passed through Guigu Plank Road and Tianmen Temple. Guigu Plank Road, built along the mountain, was winding and precarious yet incredibly beautiful; Tianmen Temple, on the other hand, was serene and solemn, with incense smoke curling upwards, bringing a sense of peace. This itinerary offered both natural grandeur and cultural depth.
Descending the mountain by bus on the winding mountain road, we navigated the 99 bends of the 'Heaven-Linking Avenue,' a thrilling and memorable experience. Overall, this trip was not only a visual feast but also an unforgettable and wonderful memory, fully showcasing the majestic beauty and charm of Tianmen Mountain.

super essygoing and very easy to go all the way up even with the current work on the cablecar for Line A. You just have to take a bus which is also a very fun experience! I spent about 4 hours on the spot and it was incredible. Just warning you that you might have to add extras for escalators, glass pathways and think of bringing food/water as everything is 2 times more expensive all the way up!

Tianmen mountain had some amazing views, the red route had the better views, but is definitely worth a full loop covering both the red and yellow routes. For anyone else going it’s worth waiting till 19:00 when the mountain lights up, the lights go through a cycle before finishing with a rainbow of lights at 20:00, unfortunately didn’t stay for the full light show due to rain. For ease, I would recommend staying near the cable car

A magical place. We spent about 6 hours there, and you need to be good on your feet, as despite escalators and cable cars, you'll climb many stairs and walk breathtaking paths around the mountains. A truly great experience.

The most incredible experience! Amazing views! We experienced both downpours and sunshine, and we can say that it's worth going for the experience no matter the weather! Plan at least 6-7 hours to have enough time to go up and complete part of the route. We recommend route "A".

Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie is absolutely breathtaking and one of the most unforgettable places to visit in China! The spectacular mountain views, winding mountain road, cable car ride, and famous Heaven's Gate are truly amazing. Walking along the glass skywalk is an exciting experience, especially for those who love adventure and stunning scenery. The natural beauty of the mountain is incredible and makes every step worthwhile. Be prepared for plenty of walking, and wear comfortable shoes.

I picked route A as recommended online for first timers and it was a great choice. very easy to navigate and figure out on your own. area is not super huge. however weather is very important if it’s very cloudy you won’t be able to see anything it would be a wasted trip.

Notice on Adjusting the Operating Routes of Tianmenshan Scenic Area: Due to the construction needs of the Tianmenshan ropeway quality upgrading project and the lower station complex project, in order to fully carry out project construction and ensure the normal operation of the scenic area, starting from October 13, 2026, the section of the Tianmenshan ropeway from the urban lower station to the middle station will suspend passenger service. By then, the entire Tianmenshan ropeway line will be suspended. The scenic area will only open the round-trip ropeway Line C sightseeing transportation route, suspend the sale of round-trip ropeway Lines A and B sightseeing packages, and continue to suspend the sale of one-way ropeway Lines 1 and 2 sightseeing packages. For guests who have already booked Lines A and B, customer service will contact them to change to Line C. During this period, the round-trip shuttle bus from the Tianmenshan ropeway lower station to the mountain gate will continue to operate normally, and the Tianmenshan ropeway lower station will continue to retain ticket windows and customer service consultation windows.
