What to expect
Lake Biwa Japan’s largest freshwater lake, known as the “Lake of Life” in Kansai, offers unique seasonal scenery. In spring, ascend Hikone Castle to admire thousands of cherry trees in bloom; in summer, take a cruise to enjoy the lake’s scenery; in autumn, visit Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei to view autumn leaves and overlook the lake; and in winter, check out the limited-time mountain valley snow activities, immersing yourself in the beauty of the lake’s four seasons.
La Collina Omihachiman The flagship landmark of Shiga’s long-established sweets brand TANEYA, nestled in the greenery of the foothills of Mount Hachiman, resembles a fairytale town. The grass-roofed buildings are eye-catching, and you can taste limited-edition honey cakes and freshly baked Baumkuchen, as well as observe pastry making. It is a popular spot that combines both food and scenery.
Nara A classic cultural and historical site in Kansai, Nara Park is home to adorable deer that can be seen everywhere, allowing for close-up interaction and feeding. Ancient buildings such as Todai-ji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine are located nearby, and the world’s largest bronze Rushana Buddha statue is impressive. Nature and a thousand years of Buddhist culture blend perfectly here.
