- Tohoku History Museum Located in Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture, the Tohoku History Museum is a comprehensive facility that displays and researches various fields such as history, culture, traditions, folklore, archeology, and art of the Tohoku region. In the general exhibition room, you can comprehensively learn about the history and culture of the Tohoku region from the Paleolithic Age to the modern era according to the times and themes.
- National Treasure Taga Castle Stele This stele is made of granite sandstone, 248 cm high (196 cm above the ground), with a maximum width of 103 cm and a thickness of 72 cm. The stele faces due west. It is listed as one of Japan’s three ancient steles and was officially designated as a “National Treasure” in 2024.
- Tagajo South Gate Completed in 2025 to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the construction of Tagajo Castle. It is 14.5 meters high and takes the form of a double gate. Its appearance is solemn and magnificent, reproducing the layout at that time.
- Shiogama Shrine The founding date of Shiogama Shrine cannot be determined, but it is generally believed to have been established before the Nara period (710-794). Shiogama Shrine is located in Shiogama City between Sendai and Matsushima. As the guardian shrine of the Tohoku region, it has been regarded as the “Ichinomiya of Mutsu Province” for many years and is deeply respected by the local people. The shrine enshrines the gods of the sea and salt and is said to protect maritime safety, promote commercial prosperity, and bring purification and protection to the body and mind, and is deeply respected.
- Tamonyama Observation Square Park & Bishamondo Tamonyama is a scenic spot in Matsushima, one of the three most famous landscapes in Japan. It is one of the “Four Views of Matsushima” along with Otakamori in Higashimatsushima City, Mt. Tomiyama and Ogi Valley in Matsushima Town. From behind Bishamondo, you can overlook more than 260 floating islands in Matsushima Bay, with magnificent scenery.
