Reviews
amazing experience, the show was brilliant and have never seen anything like it. The performers where great and loved how they interacted with the audiencem. the staff they helped where also great and made sure to translate when needed. recommended going to see it
great show, very entertaining. it was sort of like japanese drag queens in the first half and very good singing and talking too much from a famous guy. no idea what he was saying. not sure you actually need a guided experience. i suppose you could just buy a ticket for the show.
This is my first time seeing a performance, and I love it! Rainy Asakusa... I wanted to see a Kabuki performance, but this is also wonderful. It's so exciting!
What an incredible show ! This theatre show complemented with English explanations from a native speaker made before hand was really fun to watch. The fact that we were the only guests and that we were surrounded by local Japanese spectators made the experience very authentic. Each troop of actors are performing for limited time making each show an individual experience and then move to another location like circus troops. Warmly recommended.
The staff and performers were fantastic. Joshua our guide was a wonderful and did a great job explaining the history of the artform, the performers, and the space. I highly recommend doing this if you want a very unique experience in Asakusa.
i really immerse myself into the gorgeous show. especially, the local guide - Jeanine introduces details of show to guide me step into story. thanks so much. highly recommend !
The guide was a foreigner, and communication in English was very convenient. Even though my English isn't great, the guide still managed to use simple English words and speak slowly, making a great effort to help us understand the performance's content. If we had any questions during the show, the guide was always there to assist. The entire performance was lively and energetic, and you could really feel the joy of popular culture. I was surprised that there weren't many tourists; most of the audience members were Japanese. I think that instead of buying similar souvenirs around Senso-ji Temple, it's much better to come here and experience a theatrical performance.
Our Australian guide was very welcoming and friendly. The performance was great and the kimonos worn and makeup very pretty. Surprisingly good show overall. Little gift at the end was kind. Bonus was being able to take a few photos with the performers.
I stumbled across Asakusa Mokubakan (大衆演劇 木馬館) completely by coincidence while looking for something traditional to watch, and it ended up being one of the most memorable experiences of my trip. I was genuinely surprised by how seamlessly the performance blended traditional Japanese dance with modern music and theatrical elements. The constant costume changes were impressive on their own, but what really stood out was the performers’ total commitment to every character. Each role felt fully lived in, not just performed. Watching the audience made the experience even better. Seeing the locals, especially the older ladies, cheering, reacting, and clearly having the time of their lives was inspiring and incredibly heartwarming. It felt less like a tourist attraction and more like being welcomed into a living, breathing piece of local culture. If you’re building a Tokyo itinerary and want something authentic, intimate, and unforgettable
Highly recommended! If you want to experience local entertainment, you have to see this show. I couldn't stop smiling from start to finish. The performance was exceptional, the crowd was wonderful, and the overall experience was fantastic. The guide was very welcoming and incredibly friendly. Definitely worth it!
