What to expect
8:00 JR Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit 8:30 Shinjuku MODE Gakuen During the autumn period from October 15th to November 30th, tours depart 1 hour earlier: (7:00 Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit, 7:30 Shinjuku MODE Gakuen) Toshogu Shrine The best season to visit Nikko Toshogu Shrine is autumn, especially during the autumn foliage period (early to mid-November each year). During this time, the temples and shrines are set against a backdrop of beautiful autumn leaves, creating a profound atmosphere. Strolling through the grounds, learning about history, and admiring the architectural art and beautiful maple leaves is a truly delightful experience. It is particularly worth mentioning that the Nikko area, where Nikko Toshogu Shrine is located, is one of Japan’s “Three Great Autumn Foliage Spots.”
Futarasan Shrine (Main Shrine) Futarasan Shrine is an important shrine in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Together with Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple, it is listed as a World Heritage Site as part of “Shrines and Temples of Nikko.” The main hall of the main shrine adopts the Hachiman-zukuri style. Although the overall architectural style of the shrine is not as flamboyant as the nearby Toshogu Shrine and Rinnoji Temple, its rustic solemnity, set against the natural mountains and forests, complements the surrounding environment. Its torii gate, haiden (worship hall), and other buildings are designated as important cultural properties.
Irohazaka Winding Road (Viewed from the car, no disembarkation) Irohazaka Winding Road is located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It is a mountain road from Nikko city to Lake Chuzenji and Oku-Nikko, with a total length of 15.8 kilometers. The uphill and downhill routes combined have 48 curves, most of which are 180-degree sharp turns. Its steepness is unparalleled in Japan, and due to its many difficult sharp turns, it is considered one of the most challenging mountain roads to drive in Japan. It was also the filming location for the “Iroha Battle” in “Initial D.”
Lake Chuzenji Lake Chuzenji was formed approximately 20,000 years ago when Mount Nantai’s volcanic eruption dammed a river. With an elevation of 1,269 meters, it is one of Japan’s high-altitude natural lakes. Surrounded by mountains and with a winding shoreline, it boasts beautiful scenery. The cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves are spectacular, and in winter, there are ice festivals and activities like skiing and ice skating.
Kegon Falls It is the sole outlet of Lake Chuzenji, with water cascading down a 97-meter-high rock face at a rate of approximately 3 tons per second, forming a magnificent waterfall. Its downstream connects to the Daiya River, a tributary of the Kinu River. It is known as one of Japan’s “Three Great Waterfalls,” along with Nachi Falls in Wakayama and Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki Prefecture. It was designated a national scenic beauty of Japan in 1931 and was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Geological Sites in 2007.

Reviews
had an amazing trip to Nikko. The tour guide JEFFREY has been very attentive to passengers needs. i personally requested a front seat due to dizziness spell on long journey, he planned out and put me in front seat.
We had a really wonderful time on this Nikko day trip! The whole tour was very well-organized, smooth, and convenient from start to finish, which made it such a stress-free way to explore Nikko from Tokyo. The places included in the itinerary were all beautiful and definitely worth seeing from the scenic views to the cultural and historical spots, everything felt well-balanced and enjoyable. A special thank you to Jack, our tour guide, for making the experience even better. He was friendly, organized, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone was comfortable and informed throughout the trip. He explained things clearly, kept the group on track without making anyone feel rushed, and added a fun and welcoming energy to the day. Overall, this was a great experience and a really nice way to see Nikko in just one day. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a hassle-free and memorable day trip!
Tour guide Jan Jie's service was very good, and the weather was very sunny. Although it was cold, walking around made it less so. This trip was a great experience.
Our tour guide, Xiao Hu, provided explanations throughout the entire trip and was always responsive to requests. He deserves recognition.
Thank you to our guide, Jeffery, for today's clear and informative tour. He reminded us of important things to note at each must-see attraction. The season we chose wasn't ideal, so the cost-performance ratio was a bit low. Overall, we were very satisfied with everything.
The guide I had was an excellent professional, very helpful during the meeting, and very warm and friendly to me. The tour perhaps needed more hours because Nikko is a very large complex. But I know it's a destination quite far from Tokyo, and they do what they can.
If you’re pressed for time and want a quick overview of Nikko, this trip is a good find. For the price, you get round trip transfers, a few hours at Toshogu Shrine, and a quick excursion to Kegon Falls and Lake Chikuzen. Our guide, Jeffrey, was very helpful and friendly.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine is definitely worth a visit. For independent travelers, joining a day tour is highly recommended as it includes a guide and takes care of transportation, which is a huge plus!
The Tochigi Prefecture Nikko day trip has a well-paced overall schedule. The itinerary was modified to arrive at Lake Chuzenji as the first stop, with 30 minutes allocated, which is very tight if you visit Chuzenji Temple on your own. Afterward, we drove on the Irohazaka Winding Road and arrived at Nikko Toshogu Shrine. There was ample time at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, with enough time to also visit Rinno-ji Temple and Futarasan Shrine. We purchased the hotel pick-up service, titled "Pick-up Only", but it actually offered a return service. However, we already had arrangements and chose to end the trip at Tokyo Station.
Tour guide is very knowledgeable and helpful. the tour is enjoyable, with some history and educational. Waterfall is impressive.
