Located within Hiroshima prefecture, Takehara is a charming and beautiful city on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. In the past, Takehara flourished as a port town known for its sake and salt production.
The beauty and history of this city extends out into the sea, where one can find Ōkunoshima, popularly known as “Rabbit Island.” As the name suggests, this island contains a large wild rabbit population, but it also houses a dark secret.

Please, do yourself a favour and BOOK this tour!! I was priviledged enough to be the only one with the tour guide, who was an absolute sweetheart and we had a crazy good time!! The whole tour is super interesting and Ōkunoshima was as relaxing as it was interesting! I highly recommend it!
There were three members in this tour and we used the public transportation using a transport card that is provided. The guide is knowledgeable and helpful. The pace is relax and proceed as the group determines.
I was the only participant on this tour for the day I booked - so I got to have my own private tour with the lovely and delightful Isabella! She had so much knowledge and passion for both Takehara and the bunny island - and we were able to get everything done in a timely manner despite a spot of traffic on the way to Takehara! the town was filled with all manner of history related to trade and merchants, and was like stepping back in time to the Edo period. The bunnies on Okunoshima island were all incredibly cute and getting to interact with them, as well as have the assistance of Isabella to take many photos of me with them, and to talk about the islands history and purpose made it all the more better. Would definitely recommend this tour! it’s a lovely break away from the hustle and bustle of the city and you get a solid history lesson and some cute animals out of it! thank you again, Isabella!
Wonderful tour!!!!! A lot of interesting information, also you can discusse with guide about everything. Very recommend this tour. And also: rabbits were so cute❤️
Isabelle is very friendly and knowledgeable. She plans the route well and we are on time for all the buses and ferries. She even helped us with our appointment as we make a mistake on the return, really thankful that she could help. The rabbits were awfully cute and we really enjoyed feeding them. The place is really beautiful too.
Tour Guide: Very kind and friendly ❤️ She was also very professional, providing detailed introductions for each attraction 👍🏻 Attractions Along the Way: First, we visited the Takehara Townscape Preservation District, which preserves the historical appearance of the Edo period, offering a strong retro charm and great photo opportunities. Afterward, we went to Okunoshima, also known as Rabbit Island 🐰 The island has many adorable rabbits that you can interact with and photograph. Additionally, the island boasts beautiful scenery. Itinerary: We used public transportation, and the schedule was very well-planned, so we never felt rushed or had to wait too long.
This is a guided bus and boat tour that you could easily do on your own by finding information on Google Maps. However, without buying the tour, you probably wouldn't want to go alone. The Indian guide will take us to the places indicated. There were only 3 people on the whole trip, making it a very chill tour.
Isabella is amazing! She’s so knowledgeable, caring, kind and organised, very easy to get along with and welcomes everyone. We got the most out of the tour because it’s so well organised. Rabbits are so cute! There’s also a lot of history to Takehara town and Rabbit Island itself. Highly recommend as a day trip from Hiroshima.
We loved this tour! Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and helpful. We had a bit of a mix up at the start. We were meant to look for the “Snow Monkey Resort” sign at Hiroshima station so we didn’t recognise our guide at first. Takehara is so peaceful and beautiful, and we loved that we travelled on public transport as locals do. The bunnies on the island were so cute and friendly, and we had plenty of time to walk around and explore. Thank you so much for the lovely tour, 10/10 recommend ✨🐇💖
The trip was smooth and enjoyable, with more interesting attractions than described. The tour guide was patient, friendly, and provided meticulous reminders. Worth recommending!
