Was able to buy a JR Pass before the price increase. We only got the 5-day pass, but it was more than enough to take us around Iwate, Akita, and Aomori, including our shinkansen trips to and from Tokyo. Definitely worth the price compared to how much we would have spent on individual tickets without the pass.
Price: OK Seat booking process: Easy when booking via the kiosk, but there are *times* when it's not possible and I have to go to the staff counter. I asked the admin, but there was no answer as to why. Coverage area: Wide, very good value.
Using the JR East Pass (Tohoku Area, 5 consecutive days) was an extremely satisfying experience overall, and it proved to be one of the most crucial and valuable transportation tools for this trip to Japan. For travelers planning inter-city movements and in-depth exploration of the Tohoku region, this pass is practically an essential choice. First, it was very convenient to exchange and use. After purchasing it in advance through Klook, upon arrival in Japan, I simply presented my passport and voucher at a designated JR service center or station counter to complete the exchange. The staff were friendly, and the process was clear, making it easy to complete even without knowing Japanese. Seat reservations could also be made at the time of exchange, which was a significant plus for itineraries involving Shinkansen travel, saving a lot of time waiting in line on-site. During actual use, the JR East train system demonstrated high punctuality and stability. Almost every train departed and arrived precisely on schedule, making the overall itinerary planning more reassuring. Whether taking the Tohoku Shinkansen to and from Sendai and Morioka, or local lines to more remote areas, the efficiency and comfort of Japan's railway system were evident. The train cars were clean, and the seats were spacious, so even long journeys didn't feel tiring. Furthermore, the pass offers extensive coverage, allowing free travel on multiple JR lines, including Shinkansen and some limited express trains, providing great flexibility. This enables travelers to adjust their itinerary flexibly based on the day's situation, such as adding attractions or changing routes at short notice, without incurring additional transportation costs, offering considerable freedom of use. It's an ideal choice for those who enjoy in-depth travel or don't want to be tied to a fixed itinerary. In terms of price, while the ticket price might seem a bit high at first glance, it quickly pays for itself if the itinerary includes several medium to long-distance journeys. For example, after a few Shinkansen rides, the overall transportation cost is actually more economical than buying individual tickets. Therefore, for travelers planning multi-city trips, this pass offers excellent value for money. Of course, there are a few minor points to note. For instance, seats on popular routes or during holidays can be tight, so it's advisable to reserve seats in advance to avoid disrupting your plans. Additionally, some non-JR lines or specific trains are not covered, so a quick check before use will ensure a smoother experience. Overall, the JR East Pass excelled in convenience, flexibility, and overall experience, not only improving travel efficiency but also making the entire journey more relaxed and enjoyable. It is highly recommended for both first-time visitors to Tohoku and those looking to explore Japan's regional cities in depth. If I have a similar itinerary in the future, I will prioritize purchasing it again.
the best purchase I ever made. we use this all over Tohoku North Japan. it was amazing that we use shinkansen everytime we go to the one place to another. This is very convenient and less hassle. we can reserve seat. super fast!
We were able to explore Akita, Morioka, Aomori and Sendai using this pass. Narita Express and Tohoku Shinkansen were included, so we were able to use it immediately straight from the airport. Worth the price!
Smooth travelling from Narita Airport to Aomori, Kesennuma, Fukushima, Omiya, Yokohama & Tokyo. Bought the 10days pass and it was more worth it buying from Klook as the pricing is more competitive. Took the Pokemin train with the pass too which was fun!
Great value! Unlimited rides on JR trains and buses within the service area. Unlimited reserved seating on the Shinkansen. Valid for 10 consecutive days, a great deal for those arriving in Tokyo. Highly recommend this pass for traveling throughout Tohoku. Easy to activate and use.
love the convenience to buy the pass online and also no hardcopy needed to be collected before travelling to Japan. online voucher issued instantly and u juz need to show to the JR counter at the airport. this pass can book Shinkansen tickets and everything was settled upon touched down at the airport. after that is juz enjoying the journeys and have fun.
Arrived at Haneda on a Peach night flight without using my annual leave. Thanks to Peach delaying my flight without fail, I arrived at the airport at dawn, wandered around Terminal 3, and then took the first free shuttle bus at 4:15 to Terminal 2 Tourist Information Center where I could exchange passes starting at 6:00. I quickly exchanged my pass and immediately took the Monorail-Yamanote Line-Tohoku Shinkansen (Hayabusa)-Aomori Railway-Ominato Line to safely complete my trip to Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture. I used the JR Line and Aomori Railway that I could use the pass for, and traveled comfortably without having to issue a ticket except for reserved seats. However, since the minimum number of days is 5, I couldn't use all 5 days as an ordinary office worker who doesn't use my annual leave, which was a shame, but even though I only used 2 days, I more than covered the cost of not using the pass. The Shinkansen round trip alone costs 300,000 won. If I had more time, I could have used it more productively, but I'll be using it a lot even when I return to work on Monday. It's the same♡♡♡
The pass was well worth it, took the train round trip for Tokyo-Sendai, and also used it to visit Matsushima and Morioka from Sendai. Also very useful to be able to reserve seats for free in advance. The only thing is to be aware of where you can exchange for the pass. There was a long queue at the JR office at Haneda Airport, so I thought I'd exchange in Tokyo since I only planned to start using it a few days later. At first I thought I could exchange at Shinagawa station (based on my experience some years ago) but the staff told me to go Takanawa Gateway or Tokyo station. I tried Takanawa Gateway, but it seemed to have been newly renovated and no office existed? So I had no choice but to go Tokyo station. It was good that I could do it at JR Cafe as there was no queue there at all. By the way, I tried seeing if exchanging at the ticket machine on my own is possible or not. It could scan my passport, but at the next step I didn't have a qr code to scan, so I guess it's impossible. Anyway, I enjoyed my travel to Tohoku.
