- We currently organize cooking classes at two different locations: at Blue Butterfly Restaurant in Hanoi Old Quarter, or ToiToi Vietnam Cooking Center in Westlake, featuring a spacious setting with an open kitchen and vegetable garden, offering a more relaxing and authentic Vietnamese culinary experience.
What to expect
Founded in 2006 the restaurant located in this old French house (more than 100 years old) at 69 MaMay street (1km from Hoan Kiem Lake). Blue Buterfly is the first class organizer in Hanoi.
Our cooking class offers a hands-on journey into the heart of traditional Vietnamese cuisine and culture, allowing you to make it at home for your family. Our chef is professional chefs and over 15 years cook in our restaurant. We also have masterclasses for professional chefs, and restaurant owners around the world.
We started our business at Klook from January 2025.

Hung, our coach and chef is really friendly and knowledgeable! The trip is not just cooking but also to really see Vietnamese food culture. Hung bring us to the wet market and shows us the side of Vietnam local life that a tourist can never get to see unless you have someone leading you the way. He treated us with street foods that we don’t dare to try on our own and they are amazing and eye opening. The cooking class is also in depth and with a lot of great and useful tips. 100% recommend!
This is the most delicious Vietnamese grilled meat I’ve ever had. I was truly amazed that by following the teacher, I could create such an outstanding dish. It’s really top-notch 👍 During the market visit, the teacher was very generous and treated us to local foods like donuts and rice rolls. She also gave very detailed introductions to commonly used Vietnamese vegetables and dried ingredients. I learned so much from this experience.
I enjoy cooking, but I was a bit nervous at first because I'm not very confident in my English. However, the chef explained everything so thoroughly that I was able to relax and enjoy myself. The market tour was also an exciting experience, and I appreciated learning more about spices and herbs. The beef pho, bun cha, nem, and green papaya salad we made were all delicious, and it was a valuable opportunity to learn about the local food culture. The kitchen was clean, so I felt comfortable participating from a hygiene perspective as well. It was a very satisfying and wonderful experience.
Hung was an excellent and jovial chef and made our whole learning experience so pleasant and enjoyable. Bringing us to the nearby market was the highlight of our learning experience as he shared with us the produce coming from the nearby farms and plantations everyday and showing and explaining things to us. He even let us try the local food and fruits so that we get to taste firsthand the freshness of Hanoi ingredients and produce. We learned a total of 4 Vietnamese dishes i.e. deep fried meat spring roll, rice noodle soup, papaya salad and BBQ pork! A wonderful way to end my Hanoi trip. Chef Pickle gave us a short market tour and let us try some food from the local hawkers/vendors. Then it was back to the kitchen for some cooking. We made beef pho, pork bbq, pan-fried cake, and of course spring rolls! Very informative and I got a lot of tips on how to prepare Vietnamese food. Finally, we ate the food we cooked and it was all very delicious.
This was such a memorable experience for me and my family. Chef Hung (Pickle) took us through how to make beef pho before bringing us through the fresh market. He was enthusiastic about showing us the different kinds of things sold there, and even let us try some delicacies. The cooking class was very informative and he was very happy to provide us with all the information we needed to make the dishes at home, even after the class. It was a great time getting to know the other people in the class as well! Would recommend for anyone travelling in Hanoi to come and try it out (:
Joined this cooking lesson by Chef Hung aka Pickle at the blue butterfly. He brought us to the market for ingredients picking and also introduced a lot of local street food to us. The cooking lesson is super fun. Chef is very attentive and shared a lot of tips and guidance to us. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly, too. We have now learned how to make various popular Vietnamese food. Can't wait to try to cook again at home. Our friends saw the photos of our cooking were all impressed.
We really enjoyed the local market tour and cooking class with Chef Pickle. We got to try various local street food (steamed rice rolls, fried glutinous rice balls, roast pork, stream glutinous rice cake, jackfruit) at the market and Chef Pickle pointed out various local produce and patiently answered our questions. He also helped communicate with the local shop owners for our purchases. The cooking class was fun and Chef's instructions were clear and insightful. He was sure to involve everyone, even the 9yr old in our group. The recipes were really good and the dishes (fried spring rolls, mango salad, bun ca, chicken pho) were simply delicious... YUM! 😋 Chef Pickle was really kind and even told us that should we have any questions while trying out the recipes at home, we can contact him anytime. Thanks Chef Pickle for the wonderful time.. We had such a great time at the Blue Butterfly Cooking Class! The whole experience was fun, relaxed, and really well organized. Our instructor, Teacher Hung-Pickle was amazing! He is super friendly, patient, and made every step easy to follow. He explained everything clearly and made the class even more enjoyable. The dishes we cooked turned out delicious, and the atmosphere felt authentic and welcoming. We really loved the hands-on experience and learning more about the local cuisine. Walking through the local market is a gastronomical experience on its own! Everything was enjoyable from start to finish! now that’s how you do a cooking class! Try their resto as well, such a hole in a wall!
