What to expect
- Defining Nyorai Western Temple: A Spiritual Anchorage in a Tranquil Mountain Temple Located in a secluded mountain forest, Defining Nyorai Western Temple is a rare Jodo sect temple in Tohoku. Far from the hustle and bustle, the temple garden’s scenery changes with the seasons, with cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and snowscapes weaving together to create peaceful paintings. It is suitable for quiet walks to feel the inner peace and power of faith. The old street snacks next to the temple, especially the signature triangular fried tofu, are local delicacies that should not be missed.
- Akiu Great Falls: Magnificent Scenery of One of the 100 Best Waterfalls in Tohoku Akiu Great Falls, known as one of the “100 Best Waterfalls in Japan,” has a 55-meter-high waterfall cascading down, creating a majestic yet tranquil feeling. Walking through it and letting the mist caress your face is a natural baptism that awakens all five senses.
- Akiu Village Agurie no Mori: A Local Market to Get Close to the Land “Akiu Village Agurie no Mori,” which combines local agricultural products, handmade crafts, and light food cafes, is a great place to learn about Akiu culture. You can pick seasonal fruits and vegetables, taste local specialty desserts, or buy exquisite souvenirs to add an “Akiu flavor” to your trip. The area is managed by “Ocha no Igata,” a well-known tea shop in Sendai, and offers Sendai’s famous confection, Kikufuku. This soft and chewy mochi is wrapped in sweet bean paste and fresh cream, with matcha and edamame flavors being the most popular, and is a must-try dessert in Miyagi.
- Supermarket Saichi: A Popular Local Dessert Paradise
"Saichi," a supermarket known as a treasure trove by locals, is famous for its limited-edition botamochi (ohagi) made daily. The sweet and delicate red bean paste wraps around handmade pounded glutinous rice, and the aroma of rice and beans are perfectly intertwined, simple but unforgettable. Many travelers come specifically for this classic local taste.

Reviews
The guide was Japanese, but they explained everything carefully in Chinese and even provided Chinese brochures, which made everything very easy to understand and reassuring. There were only six participants that day, so moving around and taking photos was smooth, and we were able to tour at a relaxed pace, which was great. None of the spots we visited were too touristy; they had a hidden gem-like, calm atmosphere, with fewer crowds, so we could quietly enjoy the scenery. It was late autumn, but the autumn leaves were at their peak, and the colorful trees and valley scenery were very beautiful, making it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to efficiently explore the Sendai area.
amazing guide who tried her best to give as much information as possible even though it was raining super heavily. we really appreciate the effort!
A relaxing and enjoyable trip. The tour guide thoughtfully reminded us of every detail and flexibly adjusted the schedule, making the whole day's activities rich and pleasant.
Today is such a lucky day! Besides the weather, we had the most amazing tour guide, Mr. Yashin Tabuchi from Tour Wave. Fluent Chinese, special private attractions, in-depth explanation of the stories of the attractions, let us add many beautiful Sendai photos, souvenirs, and memories 😆.
Mr Azumi was a wonderful guide. Turned out my boyfriend and I were the only ones on the tour so it was all by taxi. It was like a personal tour. Would definitely recommend this tour. Beautiful scenery and tasted some good food that Mr Azumi recommended.
The tour guide was very nice and attentive to everyone. The itinerary and timing were perfectly managed. I'll definitely book a tour with this company again when I visit Sendai next time.
Every attraction on this itinerary is well worth visiting. Angie, our guide, was responsible and attentive, and even took us to buy some delicious local specialties. It was great!
The tour guide was very friendly and kind. The trip went smoothly.
