What to expect
Experience Introduction
When you come to a foreign country or city, I hope you'll think of me as your friend in this city. I want to treat you as I would a friend, chatting with you about our local food culture and customs – things you definitely wouldn't experience just visiting tourist attractions.
There's a northern custom: when family members travel far from home, they must eat dumplings. As a traditional delicacy, dumplings represent the Chinese people's wishes for the safety of their families. They also look like ingots, so locals eat dumplings with the beautiful hope of a prosperous life.
Let's buy fresh vegetables together at the local market and make dumplings at home while chatting like friends. I hope your trip to Beijing is worthwhile.

Our family had a wonderful time with the warm and friendly host family. Although we also make dumplings in Korea, I applied for this experience because I wanted my children to experience the local culture while traveling. I was grateful that the children enjoyed it so much! Making dumplings was fun, and visiting the local market was also enjoyable! A big thank you to Chenjie's husband for cooking with such effort! 💕 I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique experience while traveling in Beijing!
such an amazing experience! going through the market walking to the hosts home. learned so much about her as a person her family and the significance of dumplings would highly recommend.
chenjie and husband picked me up at the mentioned location and drove us to the nearest local market for an introduction of the way of life in beijing. we then proceeded back to their home for dumpling making where chenjie husband showed the ropes. we were then left to wrap the dumplings while chenjie’s husband cooked up dinner. dinner was yummy and they even added additional wantons midway for me to try as it had seasonal veggies in it. we had a good time chatting and before u knew it it was time to go (: recommended for even beginners who want a stress free session and have a nice local dinner and conversation with beijingers (:
A truly special experience. Chenjie and her husband are wonderful people who welcomed us into their home and shared, with passion and love, everything about making dumplings from the dough and fillings to the sauces, side dishes, and tools needed to make them perfectly. I am vegetarian, and they were extremely thoughtful in preparing a special filling just for me, as well as delicious sides both for me and for my fiancé, who eats meat. We felt truly cared for in every detail. For my fiancé’s birthday, they even bought a cake and candles to celebrate with us, making the moment even more special. It was a unique and unforgettable experience that we highly recommend, as it truly enriches the soul. We are grateful to have met such kind and generous people. We wish you a 2026 full of happiness and serenity and hope to see you soon in Italy! Norma & Luca
My heart and belly are full! This activity is the highlight of my day. I booked for a dumpling making activity but I got so much more! Ye and her family are warm and friendly! I am the only person today and I felt like I have gotten a special treatment. I felt like coming back to your hometown and meeting your old friends. Everything that I did is not "touristy". It's like being a local for 3 hours. I enjoyed the market tour. It is short but sweet. There are vegebtables that we both have only theirs are so much bigger! I am amazed. I was welcomed into their house, this is such a heart warming experience. The whole activity actually is. It is like getting a glimpse of a normal chinese family. They prepared a lot of food for me! I tried the tofu, potato, cucumber salad, chicken wings and the dumplings and wanton! Everything is delicious. It's like I gotten a food tour as well. This is such a unique experience. I highly highly recommend it! Also they do a lot of food - dumplings, baozi, noodles, pastries and so much more, just ask Miss Ye. Im sad I couldn't try other lessons due to time constraints. Thank you, Miss Ye and Family for sharing your food and frienship with me today! I hope to see you again x
Fate is wonderful! The phrase "meeting an old friend in a foreign land" may include my experience this time! Julia and her husband are a warm couple. She really wants everyone to experience the daily life of Beijingers through food culture exchanges. Unfortunately, I arrived much later due to work. Despite this, they were still very patient in preparing for me. Thank you for your enthusiasm and patience, which made me feel that this was a "heartfelt" experience! Make dumplings, talk about daily life, eat hometown dishes... understand each other's life culture, and empathize with some common life experiences. This may be more rich and meaningful than eating delicacies from land and sea! Thank you! 💕
I participated alone, but thanks to the hospitality of my host family, I had a lot of fun. Japanese people also make dumplings, but the experience of wrapping the dough was unusual and interesting. We also went to the market before the cooking class, which is a very difficult place for tourists to shop, so it was a fresh experience and I was able to shop with confidence. I don't speak fluent English, but my host spoke in a way that was very easy to understand, so I felt relieved. Since I was invited to their home, it was very valuable to get a glimpse into the lives of people living in Beijing.
Chenjie and her husband were really nice and warm. We really had a good time learning how to make the dumplings. Beside making the dumplings, we got the chance to eat local cuisines and including the dumplings we made. They were patient in teaching us how to wrap the dumplings and the ingredients were freshly made. Beside the dumplings making, we got the change to visit a local market. What an experience! We got the chance to experience how locals shop for their products. if you are travelling to Beijing and you are looking for an activity to do. I highly recommend meeting up with Chenjie and her husband.
It was al good workshop. We starten with a visit to the market and went to their home. There we made dumplings and even had dinner with them. The people are very nice and the women speaks good English.
Chenjie and husband were amazing hosts. They gave me clear instructions on how to get there and helped me get back home. Furthermore, they filled both my stomach and heart. I thoroughly, enjoyed the experience and loved learning how to make 饺子 by hand. They helped me learn alot more about Chinese culture and even helped me plan to better enjoy my stay in China! I cannot reccomend them enough!
