Ibaraki Coastal Flower Scenery Tour - Oarai Isosaki Shrine Torii, Nakaminato Fish Market, Hitachi Seaside Park Day Trip
- Head to the Ibaraki coast to check in at the Oarai Isosaki Shrine's torii gate by the sea. With the waves framing the vermilion archway, you can easily capture atmospheric mountain and sea blockbusters at sunrise and sunset.
- The Naka Minato Fish Market offers fresh, affordable and enticing seafood. Set aside ample dining time to freely choose authentic seafood dishes for a private lunch.
- Hitachi Seaside Park, spread along the coast, features seasonal flower fields. Various flowers bloom in rotation throughout different seasons, and there's also a Ferris wheel and cycling paths for leisure and fun.
- In spring, five million nemophila flowers blanket the hills, creating a dreamlike sea of blue that merges with the sky, a truly unique spectacle. Reaching the summit allows you to take in the entire blue panoramic view.
What to expect
🌊✨ Starting from the Oarai Isosaki Shrine's sea torii in Ibaraki, visit the Nakaminato Fish Market to taste fresh seafood, then enter the Hitachi Seaside Park to admire the blue nemophila flowers. A day to encounter the shrine scenery, seafood delicacies, and seasonal flower seas of Ibaraki's east coast.
- The day's itinerary begins at Oarai Isosaki Shrine ⛩️🌅. The Kamiiso Torii, standing on rocks by the sea, faces the Pacific Ocean. Whether it's sunrise, sunset, or the moment waves splash, you can capture stunning seascape photos.
- Afterwards, head to the Nakaminato Fish Market 🦀🍣. The seafood here is fresh and affordable, making it a must-visit spot for tourists from all over Japan. The market is close to the sea, with freshly caught seafood brought directly to the table every day. Sushi, kaisendon (seafood bowls), and various snacks are all mouth-watering.
- In the afternoon, arrive at Hitachi Seaside Park 🌼🚴♀️ and embark on a journey of natural exploration along the vast coastal dunes. The flowers have unique characteristics throughout the four seasons: nemophila and tulips in spring, sunflowers and zinnias in summer, kochia and cosmos in autumn, and ice tulips and plum blossoms in winter. Every year from April to May, approximately 5.3 million blue nemophila flowers bloom, like a sprawling sky carpet, complementing the distant sea and creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene. Enjoy getting close to nature and light exercise.
* From historical culture to seafood delicacies, and then to blue flower seas and vast coastlines, each stop is full of imagery and healing power 📸✨. Whether for taking photos, strolling, or relaxing, this day's itinerary allows one to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty and local life of Japan's east coast.

I almost wanted to cancel this trip because the flower season was over, but then I thought a suburban tour would also give my feet a rest. The date was the Friday after Golden Week, so there were far fewer tourists, and we hardly had to wait in line for anything. The three stops on the itinerary weren't far apart. Initially, it was just 'get on the bus - sleep - attraction - eat - attraction - go back.' It took over two hours to get to the first attraction, even without much traffic. At Oarai Isosaki Shrine, I think the main point is to go down the stairs to the beach. For the fish market, you really need to do your research beforehand and decide immediately which restaurant you want to eat at, otherwise, you definitely won't have enough time. The last stop was a park. I initially thought it was just a nature park, but it actually had playground equipment, so it's a great place for those with kids. Since the flowers had already withered this time, we took the guided tour bus that circles the park. One loop took about 40-50 minutes. The park is truly enormous; if you don't take the bus, you'd need to rent a bicycle, or you'd be exhausted from walking. In summary, this tour isn't one where the guide takes you around the attractions; it's all free time, so it's essential to do your homework beforehand.
Joining this Klook day tour by tour bus allows you to visit three major attractions in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is very quick, convenient, and comfortable. Since the drive from Tokyo to Ibaraki Prefecture is more than 2 hours, there will be a stop at a highway rest area for tour members to use the restroom. The length of stay at the three attractions is reasonable, and the arrangement is very good. Especially in late October, you can see the brown-red Kochia scoparia at Hitachi Seaside Park, which is very delightful. Special thanks to Ms. Zheng, the tour guide, for her help. She knows Japanese, English, and Mandarin, and helped communicate with local vendors in Japanese at the Nakaminato Seafood Market. I highly recommend this day tour to everyone.
I was very lucky to catch a minibus today, covering a total of three attractions. The shrine where the Shiranami Torii Gate is located is not large, and because the weather was good and the waves were small, the photo results were okay. The seafood market is also not large, but the ingredients are fresh and reasonably priced; you can eat a sashimi set meal with sea urchin for 1500 yen. Hitachi Seaside Park is huge, with many family-friendly facilities, making it very suitable for bringing children. It's a real pity that there were no flower fields to see in November! Our guide Christy was very chatty, and this trip was very chill.
this was a very relaxing tour! the itinerary is well organized and we can feel the enthusiasm from our guide yoyo in showing us around. the highlight is definitely the seaside park, we were lucky with the weather so we got to enjoy it to the fullest
It was a nice semi-free-and-easy day trip out of tokyo with our guide Wanting. The weather wasn't the best when we went, as it was overcast and drizzled a little towards the end. Also, due to global warming, the red kochias are not yet in full crimson. Perhaps waiting another week would be better for those planning to visit. The tuna chirashi don at Kyuraku 久楽 (around the fish market area) was pretty good at around 2500 yen, definately worth a try. They use sushi rice for their rice bowl hence it was like a sushi substitute. Oh do note that there is an additional 800 yen entrance fee chargw for the Hitachi seaside garden.
Thank you Danny, the Dmdriver for the day tour, he didn't talk much but he gave clear instructions at each stop pit.
We were informed on the day by our tour guide (YuKai) that Klook did not removed this tour despite the tour agency no longer offering it for the mean time as there are no flowers blooming. Nevertheless, Yukai relentlessly covered all the spots and we returned to Tokyo in time despite the heavy Friday traffic. Period to avoid: 15 Nov 25 - 31 January 2026
The Oarai-Isohamacho experience is truly a breath of fresh air. I loved watching the powerful waves roll in—there’s even a staircase that lets you get a closer view of the sea, which was a highlight! Nearby, the seafood area in Hitachinaka is also a must-visit, offering a wide variety of fresh seafood. I especially enjoyed the grilled squid and shrimp. If you have a seafood allergy, it’s a good idea to bring your own food so you don’t go hungry. As for Hitachi Seaside Park, make sure to check the bloom schedule before visiting. We arrived early, but unfortunately it wasn’t peak season—something to look forward to next time!
We had a great time today as this was one of the attractions we were most looking forward to seeing! The tour guide Ma Ge is very kind and enthusiastic! Although the car had some minor problems on the way back, Ma Ge found a solution immediately - ensuring the safety of the passengers first. This is something that deserves praise!
I really love the sashimi restaurant at the fish market which I found the best in Japan so far. I could not read Kanji so put the picture here. the Hitachi park is awesome and the best park in Japan that I know :)
