What to expect
Guided Tour to the Stunning Grasslands, Normally Off-Limits, Led by a Ranching Guide
Enjoy cycling through the smoking Mt. Aso Nakadake and the "Millennial Grassland" on eco-friendly electric-assist bicycles. In the world's largest Aso caldera lies the "Millennial Grassland," Japan's largest grassland, passed down through generations as people and nature have coexisted in harmony for thousands of years. This vast expanse has been an indispensable part of the lives of Aso residents since ancient times, used for grazing and harvesting grass for feed. Because it is agricultural land that is protected and utilized, ordinary tourists are not normally allowed to enter.
This tour has obtained special permission to visit areas that are usually inaccessible. The "ASObe Team," a group of experienced ranching guides who know everything about Aso, will guide you on eco-friendly electric-assist bicycles.
By joining this tour, you can avoid the weekend parking lot queues and feel the pulse of the Aso大地 and the cool breeze of the grassland. Even travelers who have visited Aso many times are surprised, saying, "This is the first time I've seen such a beautiful view of Aso." A support vehicle is provided to store your luggage, so you can enjoy the Aso grassland scenery in light clothing.
Tour the “Millennial Grassland” of Mt. Aso Nakadake by E-MTB (electric-assist bicycle) The cycling route goes from the bottom of the Aso Station (approx. 500m above sea level) caldera to the Mt. Aso Nakadake crater (approx. 1,300m above sea level), with an 800m difference in elevation of uphill and downhill riding.
A portion of the tour fee will be donated to the Ranching Association as a fund for the indispensable grassland burning activities that maintain the "Millennial Grassland." By participating in the guided tour, you can also contribute to the maintenance of the grassland and become a member of the "Grassland Guardians."
