What to expect
Yanagawa flourished as a castle town during the Edo period, over 400 years ago. For the creation of the castle town, moats were constructed throughout the area, and these moats have now become the stage for river cruising. Please enjoy the scenery along the course, which changes with the seasons, such as cherry blossoms, irises, and autumn leaves, while being swayed in a "donko boat". When you board the boat, a beautiful waterfront view will spread out before your eyes.

Reviews
we were the only ones who booked through Klook so we had the entire boat & guide to ourselves (pure luck!). our guide is a local and could speak English well, he could even sing in English! the entire experience was very fun, having to cruise through the canals which gave off really zen vibes. recommend to go for the earliest slots for the pleasant weather and looser crowds. we waited patiently in the lobby before the ride for our guide to identify us. the hotel lobby have loads to shop as well.
So much fun! Considering that six years ago, during a company trip, a large group of us were crammed into one boat, this time for our family trip, we specifically chose a private boat tour, which offered plenty of space. The scenery along the Yanagawa River is beautiful, and the gentle breeze made for a leisurely and pleasant experience. The boatman was handsome and provided excellent service. With only six people on the boat, there was ample space. Watching the fishermen jump on and off the boat was entertaining. Noticing children on board, in addition to singing folk songs, the boatman specially sang Doraemon and Momotaro songs, which delighted both children and adults, creating a fulfilling emotional experience. The boatman also pointed out nearby landmarks, historical sites, and the famous eel rice restaurants along the riverbank. My family was very satisfied with and loved this trip. I highly recommend booking a private boat when visiting Yanagawa so you can truly experience the leisure and beauty of a Yanagawa boat tour, with the entire boat just for your family, making it easier to take photos.
Our Yanagawa River Cruise was such a beautiful, dream-come-true experience. I used to only see it on TikTok, and finally we were able to experience it in real life. Even though we arrived a bit late because we got lost, the staff were still very accommodating and made sure we could join the cruise. And our boatman? His voice was amazing. His singing added so much charm to the entire ride. Truly one of the most memorable moments of our Kyushu trip.
It was an incredible and unique experience as the staff was very kind and friendly. I booked my guided tour at 11am, but late for 10mins, likely it had departed as I got the meeting venue wrong. The departure quite far from the station. The staff was nice enough to let me join the next cruise at 12pm. Poncho was even prepared in event of rain. During the course of the boat ride, the boatman sang a few songs including the demonstration of the stunning jump, the whole course of journey allows me to enjoy the peacrful and quaint Yanagawa river.
Even though it was cloudy and we couldn't see the moon and only a few stars, the leisurely boat ride was incredibly relaxing. They provided mosquito repellent spray, and Hara-san (?) was friendly from the start. The explanations were good, they sang songs, and they made potentially boring points entertaining. We even got to see a small, unexpected fireworks display, which made it a fun adventure. According to someone in our group who has experienced the daytime boat tour, the night tour was much better!
the boat ride was very entertaining and fun. it lasted about 30 minutes, despite the rain, we still had lots of fun with Matsu San. his singing was nice and fun. he is also very handsome. HAHAHA thank you!! we had lots of fun.
The boat ride was awesome and the Japanese rower was friendly and entertaining. Our only cocern was where to take the paid service bus to the hotel starting point which was not clearly communicated. At the end, we walked 40 mins to the departure point, luckily we were not late.
The experience was fun and relaxing at the same time! the food was a 10/10. It was a full set meal served to us while we were in the boat. The man rowing our boat, Ken, was very accomodating and nice. He was kind enough to answer all our questions and he sang for us and gave us a little history on Yanagawa. the place is very accessible from fukuoka and was just one to two train rides away :)
I didn't buy a one-day tour. I took the subway to Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, then followed the website instructions to transfer to a bus that goes to a hotel entrance (a photo of the hotel is provided in the images). If you're in a hurry, you can also take a taxi; it won't be prohibitively expensive, probably around 2000 Japanese Yen. Once you arrive at the hotel entrance, the lobby is the meeting point. For the return trip, there's a bus stop right outside the hotel (a timetable is included, 200 Japanese Yen per person, and you can use a transit card). Throughout the journey, the boatmen were quite humorous and entertaining. Yanagawa didn't look very clean, but it was an interesting experience.
I did not expect to have that so much fun! Plus, the rower was also very talented. I also booked this on the same day and there were no issues at all.
