good performance. klook make it easy to book. just scan the QR code from the voucher and enter the theatre. think worth buying the ticket for the performance to understand more about Japan culture. The culture Center location is easy to find within walking distance from Orizuru tower and easy access to the streetcar return trip to my hotel near Hiroshima station.
Last night, I had the privilege of experiencing the traditional Japanese Kagura performance, "Shoki," up close at the Hiroshima Prefectural Culture Center. It was truly an unforgettable feast for the eyes and ears! 👏 The performers, adorned in vibrantly colored and intricately woven costumes, and wearing lifelike masks, made a powerful entrance. Their dance movements were sharp and forceful, with clear rhythm, and every turn and wave of their sleeves exuded professionalism and traditional charm. The accompanying live band was also indispensable, providing a vibrant rhythm and melodious tunes, which, in harmony with the performance's context, were sometimes rousing and sometimes delicate, making the entire performance deeply moving and full of tension! It's such a blessing to be able to personally experience the art of Kagura, which is so rich in history and culture.✨
this Kagura theater is one of the highlights of my Japan trip. Kudos to the Hiroshima theater community for keeping this art form alive. Performing that time was the Moda Kagura Troupe. The costumes and masks were amazing so were the performers and musicians.
Kagura is a performing art inspired by Japanese mythology and classical literature, where artists, dressed in magnificent costumes🎇, perform spectacular dances to rhythmic music😍. Every Wednesday, the performance is different, showcasing various stories and styles, offering a constantly refreshed experience for the audience. ✌
absolutely incredible. if you want something unique that you cant get anywhere else then I would highly reccomend this performance. they let you meet them after and try on the costumes, have an English translation for the story above and it was just beautiful. the seats are great for klook customers too
On the ninth day of my husband's cherry blossom-chasing trip, we left Fukuoka and headed directly to Hiroshima to enjoy the Kagura group's performance of traditional Kagura, which is based on Japanese mythology and classical literature. The performers wore gorgeous costumes and performed gorgeous dances to the rhythm of the music. The performance was accompanied by English subtitles, allowing overseas audiences to experience traditional culture more closely. Kagura was originally a dance performance enjoyed with the gods. The gods watched the sacred music from the canopy of heaven. Because the gods are worshipped as the main guests, this may be the difference between Kagura and "Noh" or "Kabuki". My husband was the only Asian face in tonight's performance. In just 30 minutes, the performance that combined "dance", "music", "clothes and masks" and "story" was not dull at all, and my husband listened and appreciated it with full concentration.
Awe-inspiring performance. Amazing way to experience this centuries-old art form that has been passed down from generation to generation only by word of mouth. Husband and I loved it! would recommend to any english speaking tourist since the shows have english subtitles.
I was so looking forward to this experience!! I was not disappointed! Very pleasant to attend this performance. Music, costume, dance: it's all there!! I highly recommend!!

Guide

  • Kagura troupes from various parts of Hiroshima Prefecture will perform Hiroshima Kagura, a traditional performing art, on a weekly rotating basis.
  • Performers in gorgeous costumes will present elegant dances to rhythmic music, based on themes from Japanese mythology and classical literature.
  • English subtitles will be provided, allowing international visitors to experience traditional culture up close.
  • The backstage tour will take place on stage after the performance, featuring explanations by the troupe members and an interaction session with them. In addition to trying on costumes and masks and taking commemorative photos, you can directly ask questions to the troupe members who have just finished dancing. Enjoy this special experience limited to 10 people.

Kagura, centered in the northwestern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, has evolved into a highly entertaining performance over the years, incorporating various staging elements while still valuing its role as a Shinto ritual. Most of the performed pieces are stories well-known to Japanese people from Kagura, Noh, and Kabuki. By displaying English subtitles on stage, we believe that international visitors can easily understand and experience Japanese culture.
