Review for: Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort · 3 hour Ski or Snowboarding lesson

Enjoyed our very first ski lesson with Jake. He was professional, gave great tips, and was really patient with the kids. NBS also helped to guide us to a ski resort with way lesser traffic so we could learn in peace. Also rented our ski gear from them. Will go with them again when in Hakuba!

Sam was an amazing coach — we couldn’t have asked for anyone better for our first snowboard lesson. He was incredibly patient, kind, and supportive throughout. We were about half an hour late because it took longer than expected to get our rental gear ready, but he was very understanding and didn’t make us feel rushed or stressed at all. He kept everything relaxed, which helped us settle in quickly. He also shared very practical tips, like how to properly tighten our boots for better control, and explained techniques in a clear, beginner-friendly way. Thanks to his guidance, we both made real progress within just one lesson — I was even able to link some S-turns by the end. Highly recommended for anyone learning snowboarding!

Very attentive and friendly team, you can feel their professionalism and extensive experience. I was very scared and unprepared, but they suggested switching to a simpler and safer mountain and even provided a transfer to it. It was a pleasure to interact with them—thank you so much!

They coordinate the day before the lesson and even make suggestion based on the skill level. We kept to the plan but still have a great time. Jake was our instructor and the kids really liked him and enjoyed the time with him. He was a ski instructor but also knows how to snowboard, that was a plus. We appreciate having someone who knows the trails showing the way. Highly recommended their service!!

FAQs

Is Hakuba good for beginners?

Absolutely! Hakuba is a fantastic choice for beginners. With gentle slopes and wide trails at Hakuba Ski Resorts, including Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort and Norikura Snowfield, both offer a great environment if you're just starting skiing or snowboarding. Whether you're new to the sport or looking to build your skills, Hakuba gives the perfect setting and the best ski and snowboard group lessons and even kids lessons for beginners to enjoy and learn the ropes on the slopes.

Is 3 hours of Hakuba Ski Lessons enough?

If you're new to skiing, joining beginner groups or individual lessons from professional instructors is highly recommended. Many beginners choose this route, especially if they don't come from a skiing background. Starting with 3-6 hours of lessons is good enough to get familiarized with the basics. It's best to schedule lessons on a pleasant weather day, preferably during the midweek, at a beginner-friendly mountain to make the most out of the learning experience.

What is the best month to ski in Hakuba?

To make the most of Hakuba Valley, it's best to ski from mid-December to early April, with the prime powder conditions usually found between January and February.

Do you need snow boots for Hakuba?

Yes, go for snow-specific walking boots when packing for your trip to Hakuba. Leave your casual shoes behind during the colder months, as you'll want to wear your snow boots everywhere in Hakuba. Note that these snow boots are different from ski or snowboard boots, so pack accordingly for a comfortable and enjoyable winter stay in Hakuba.
