We had a wonderful Mt. Cook & Lake Tekapo day tour from Christchurch. Special thanks to our guide, Rosy, and her husband, our driver, for their excellent service. They were friendly, accommodating, and made the trip smooth, safe, and enjoyable. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I went there for Mount Cook, but I also got to eat salmon and see the lake, so it was a great value with lots of activities! We had a transfer along the way, and both of our guides were wonderful people.

Mount Cook is incredibly beautiful, but the weather is unpredictable. We experienced heavy fog throughout our trip, and our pre-booked helicopter glacier tour was canceled. However, the weather eventually cleared, and we caught a glimpse of Mount Cook! A special commendation goes to our guide, Amy, for her dedicated assistance.

Despite the cloudy weather, I still enjoyed the tour. The scenery was beautiful and the guide was friendly, professional, and explained everything clearly. The transportation was comfortable and well organized. Unfortunately, Mt Cook and the Tasman Glacier were mostly covered by clouds during my visit, so I couldn’t fully appreciate the views. I would love to come back on a sunny day to experience the amazing landscapes again. Overall, it was a great trip and good value for money.

The tour guide was very friendly and pointed out interesting sights along the way. They also informed us in advance where restrooms were located and found scenic spots for us to get out, take photos, and enjoy the views.

My family and I had a wonderful time throughout the 13 hour van ride from Christchurch to Queenstown. The cost of the tour is well worth it, since we were able to enjoy all the sights and stops we made. The snacks and lunch were also delicious and filling. Rosie picked us up from our hotel and took us to Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook, while Abbie drove us from Mt Cook to High Country Salmon Farm and then to our Queenstown accommodation. The ride itself felt comfortable and safe. There were 3 vacant seats in Rosie's van, while Abbie's was full with 16 people inside. This was a really fun way to get around. Will definitely recommend Cheeky Kiwi to friends and family!

This is an amazing trip. Although it is a long way to go, the business bus is comfortable and has charging in the car. The tour guide also provided satisfactory service. I was very happy. Thank you.

Lupin Fields

Witness a natural spectacle like no other at the Lupin Fields of Lake Pukaki. Culture and History

Lake Pukaki holds cultural importance for the Ngāi Tahu people, with historical settlements like Punatahu on its southern shore. The lake's history is intertwined with the development of New Zealand's hydroelectric power, being a crucial part of the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme. The lupins around Lake Pukaki have a unique history, originally introduced to the region as a soil fertilizer for grazing animals. While they add to the area's beauty, they also pose challenges for local wildlife, sparking ongoing debates between farmers and environmentalists. The lake's unique turquoise color and its proximity to Aoraki/Mount Cook make it a landmark of both cultural and historical importance.

Unique Wildlife

The Pukaki Scientific Reserve, located on the lake's western side, is home to the endangered Izatha psychra moth and the data-deficient fly species Anabarhynchus albipennis, highlighting the area's ecological significance.

Local Cuisine

While visiting Lake Pukaki, travelers can indulge in the local cuisine, which features fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Be sure to try the region's renowned lamb dishes and fresh seafood, offering a true taste of New Zealand's culinary delights.
