Oshino Hakkai

Located in the Fuji Five Lakes region, Oshino Hakkai is known for its eight stunning ponds, each with its own unique allure, located in the small village of Oshino. These ponds, like Deguchi Pond, Okama Pond, Waku Pond, and more, were actually formed from a dried-up sixth lake centuries ago. The ponds at Oshino Hakkai are filled with crystal-clear water from Mount Fuji's melted snow, where you can even take a sip straight from the source! Each mirror pond is filled with freshwater plants and sizable fish, making it a fascinating spot to explore. As you wander around, you'll come across charming restaurants, cute souvenir shops, and tempting food stalls selling local goodies like veggies, sweets, and crafts. The aroma of roasted sweet potatoes and rice crackers grilling in the open air adds to the delightful atmosphere.

Our tour guide Sawaki was great, really friendly, informative, and impressive he could speak Japanese, English and Mandarin! He showed us some secret photo spots away from other tourists and shared lots of great local knowledge. The day ran smoothly and on time and we got plenty of time at each stop. The bus was comfortable too. Would recommend!

I had the best experience during the tour even though I went solo. Betty is an excellent tour guide. She provides clear instructions, entertains us with her stories and humor, and would suggest the best views of Mt Fuji. You will really feel being taken cared of.
