Absolutely fantastic! very well managed from beginning to end. Started with shuttle pickup from your hotel then when we got there, we were welcomed with a very unique opening ceremony on boat! Followed by hangi dinner (traditional method of cooking underground) which was done well, very delicious! we then were entertained with cultural dance and performance, both my kids (4 and 10) loved it and sat quietly mesmerised the whole time. Finished with bushwalk to look at spring water and glowworm. Very well 3hrs spent. Cost us about AUD $400 for family of 4 (my 4yo is free).
Exactly what we were looking for in a cultural experience. We enjoyed every part of what the family shared with us, and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this experience and definitely learned so much about the history and cultural aspects of the Maori people.
It was a very nice personal touch experience at Mitai which was run by a family of Maoris. they showcased us their traditions, song and dance and shared alot of knowledge about the Maori culture which I learnt alot about. interesting part was the warriors coming down on the river and the very delicious hangi buffet.
very educational and informative. it was a multi-part experience that lasted beyond 9pm. food was good too! so happy to finally have food that isn't dry eg fish n chips.
surprisingly very cultural experience, well explained stories, guided a completely foreign Maori song for the fellow travellers or customers, the Hangi was really delicious and worth the wait, enjoyed the Haka performance as well as some light hearted jokes to release the tension of the seriousness of the performance every one put their hearts and soul into their performances, would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about the Maori way, whilst being respectful to the traditions that they will explain there will be few moments where you can't film or photo, and you'll get to try hokey pokey ice cream which is unique to New Zealand
Overall fun experience. The show was great, food is okay, but the Q&A session was a bit too long like intentionally dragging for a longer period. and we couldn’t really see the village at night 🤣
It's worth the experience. It's fun to watch the traditional Maori dance. The buffet dinner was very filling. Remember to eat fried bread, which is like Taiwan's twins. It's very convenient to go back and forth with pick-up
The dinner buffet was really good, it has more options that expected. Really appreciate the information and cultural session from the host in the dining hall, we learned so much about the Māori culture, history and interesting fact. The performances are amazing too.
