I got to Ueno stationand showed my QR code to the machine attendant/tourist helper. Her eyes lit up and a big smile broke out across her face. "Easy," she said. "Press, English, then QR code and show the code to this little screen." Out popped both the train and reservation tickets. Klook is much easier than navigating a Japanese website or app

The instructions I received from Klook upon booking a reserved seat for the Tokyo to Aomori Shinkansen were very detailed. As it turned out it was very easy to get my tickets by scanning the supplied QR code at a relevant ticket machine which there were multiple available. The main concern was luggage storage as we had a heavy suitcase which we didn't want to lift up to the overhead compartment but there is a space at the end of the car for floor storage. The ride was comfortable with plenty of legroom. No food is available on board so you need to bring snacks.
