This was a very exciting and event packed day tour. I learnt a lot about Korean history and culture from our tour guide. The only feedback is that we could have been given more time at the village. Overall quite enjoyable and recommended.

Our two tour guides took us to every attraction, explaining the history, culture, and background in detail. They also pointed out the best spots for photos and reminded us to stay hydrated and use sun protection to avoid heatstroke. They were very attentive and caring. The driver was also very steady and safe. The itinerary was packed, and the scenery was just as beautiful as in the pictures. Highly recommended.

I was traveling solo and met new friends on the tour. Our guide Victoria shared a lot of interesting information in all places that we went and she was very fun. Good job to her for handling a large group tour. Lunch was also very filling and very traditional. It was a very insightful tour all in all visiting Gyeongju. I’m glad to have visited Gyeongju.

Thank you to our Chinese-speaking tour guide, Jin Jinlan (LAN), for her excellent explanations. Her Chinese was fluent and natural, and she didn't just tell stories rigidly. Instead, she used a humorous approach to introduce everything to us.

Must-Visit Attractions in Beomeosa Temple

Daeungjeon (Main Temple Hall)

Feel the heart of Beomeosa Temple with a visit to the Daeungjeon, the Main Temple Hall. Rebuilt in 1614 after the original was lost to the flames of war, this hall stands as a beacon of resilience and spiritual continuity. As you enter the temple complex, feel the weight of history and the enduring spirit of Korean Buddhism envelop you. The temple entrance's intricate architecture and serene atmosphere invite you to pause, reflect, and connect with the centuries-old traditions that continue to thrive here.

Iljumun (One Pillar Gate)

Start your journey into the sacred grounds of Beomeosa Temple through the Iljumun, or One Pillar Gate. This architectural marvel, which seems to balance on a single pillar when viewed from the side, symbolizes the singular path to enlightenment. As the first gate of the temple, it marks the transition from the mundane to the spiritual, inviting you to leave behind worldly concerns and embrace the tranquility and wisdom that lie beyond.

Cheongwangmun Gate

After passing through the first gate, you'll come to the Cheongwangmum Gate, also known as the "Gate of the Four Heavenly Kings." This gate is typically the second entrance to the temple grounds. Inside, you'll find statues of guardians who protect Buddha, and his teachings, and keep away evil spirits. In the old days, it was believed that only those with good intentions could enter the inner part of the temple, and these guardians were there to make sure only the deserving could pass and enter the sacred space.

Three-story Stone Pagoda

The Three-story Stone Pagoda at Beomeosa Temple is a famous Korean National Treasure 250 and has connections to the Unified Silla period. The three-story pagoda is known for its thin, flat roof stones placed horizontally, giving it a sturdy look and showcasing the ancient beauty of the Silla era.

Templestay Program
