We took this tour yesterday and were very fortunate to have Yakin as our guide. Without a doubt, having a guide with this level of preparation and kindness gave us the best experience we have had in all the tours we have taken on this trip to Korea. Simply the best tour. The tour of the Bulguksa temple was incredible. The small temples and pagodas in the central part are endearing. It was wonderful for us who come from the other side of the world to hear Yakin's explanation about the temples, Buddhism and the history of this beautiful nation. This should be a MUST-DO trip on your itinerary, you will have very pleasant memories and photos. Thank you for everything.

It is a trip worth taking as you can visit many historical and cultural heritage sites of Gyeongju in one day. Our tour guides Sunny & Kang introduced each attraction in Chinese and English respectively, allowing us to better understand the history and stories👍🏻

A great tour that covers all the key attractions of Gyeongju. Pace of tour was just nice with a very comfortable bus. Mimi is a fantastic tour guide who took the time to introduce the context of each attraction as well as always ready to help take a photo! Lunch was a great cultural experience and the entire tour was very well done and made you feel like time travel back to the Silla period. Highly recommend!

Our experience in this tour was amazing! We visited many incredible places and the tour guides Jiwon, Juha and Kelvin gave us very good explanations of Korean history and super interesting details about each place, the weather was super cold but still they did an excellent job and were super nice with us, they took pictures for us in the most beautiful spots. Also, they helped us with some restaurant recomendations near the place we are staying. I highly recommend this tour if your visting Gyeongju!

This is really recommended! First of all, I would like to thank our Chinese tour leader, Ms. Jin Jinshi (김금실), and another English tour guide, Mr. Kang, who set out together. The care on the road is kind and friendly. I think this is one of the most basic enjoyments of traveling. I can’t say enough about the service of the two of you! As for the itinerary, Gyeongju is a historical cultural relic treasure that spans two thousand years. The one-day tour is fulfilling and has the guide's answers and introductions. Of course, travelers who like complete freedom can just take a ride and go to the Korean buffet at 9900 (at your own expense) But it’s super authentic and delicious) and it’s worth the price of admission! A good partner for self-guided travel and a labor-saving and high-quality option, I recommend it~

Ken was an absolute lifesaver! He created a clear WhatsApp group, shared the pick-up point with detailed instructions, and followed up with everyone until we were all accounted for. He explained the schedule thoroughly at the start and ensured we stayed on track. His knowledge and patience were impressive, and he explained everything clearly. Highly recommend Ken for any trip!

I really like this one-day trip to Gyeongju. The itinerary is substantial, the scenery is beautiful, and the two tour guides are also excellent tour guides! The Chinese tour guide Kim Geum sil is a very good tour guide. He introduces the scenic spots very well and adds a lot of historical stories at that time. He also helps to take beautiful photos. The English tour guide is Kang, who is also a very serious and responsible tour guide. The description of the scenic spots is also very good. I recommend the two tour guides!

Must-Visit Attractions in Beomeosa Temple

Daeungjeon (Main Temple Hall)

Feel the heart of Beomeosa Temple with a visit to the Daeungjeon, the Main Temple Hall. Rebuilt in 1614 after the original was lost to the flames of war, this hall stands as a beacon of resilience and spiritual continuity. As you enter the temple complex, feel the weight of history and the enduring spirit of Korean Buddhism envelop you. The temple entrance's intricate architecture and serene atmosphere invite you to pause, reflect, and connect with the centuries-old traditions that continue to thrive here.

Iljumun (One Pillar Gate)

Start your journey into the sacred grounds of Beomeosa Temple through the Iljumun, or One Pillar Gate. This architectural marvel, which seems to balance on a single pillar when viewed from the side, symbolizes the singular path to enlightenment. As the first gate of the temple, it marks the transition from the mundane to the spiritual, inviting you to leave behind worldly concerns and embrace the tranquility and wisdom that lie beyond.

Cheongwangmun Gate

After passing through the first gate, you'll come to the Cheongwangmum Gate, also known as the "Gate of the Four Heavenly Kings." This gate is typically the second entrance to the temple grounds. Inside, you'll find statues of guardians who protect Buddha, and his teachings, and keep away evil spirits. In the old days, it was believed that only those with good intentions could enter the inner part of the temple, and these guardians were there to make sure only the deserving could pass and enter the sacred space.

Three-story Stone Pagoda

The Three-story Stone Pagoda at Beomeosa Temple is a famous Korean National Treasure 250 and has connections to the Unified Silla period. The three-story pagoda is known for its thin, flat roof stones placed horizontally, giving it a sturdy look and showcasing the ancient beauty of the Silla era.

Templestay Program

Beomeosa Temple's Templestay Program is a special opportunity that lets you peek into the everyday rituals and spiritual traditions of monk life. Join meditation sessions, tea ceremonies, and bracelet-making activities with 108 beads, all while soaking in the calm and beauty of the temple in this temple site. Whether you want to find inner harmony or learn more about Korean Buddhism, this program guides you on a meaningful path of self-discovery and contemplation.

Tips for Your Beomeosa Temple Visit

When is the best time to visit Beomeosa Temple?

Beomeosa Temple is a stunning destination throughout the year, but it truly shines in late spring when the wisteria blooms and in autumn when the foliage bursts into vibrant colors. These seasons offer mild weather and breathtaking natural beauty, making them the perfect times to visit. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is also another Busan Korea temple you can visit.

How do I get to Beomeosa Temple?

Reaching Beomeosa Temple is quite convenient with public transportation. You can take the Busan Metro Line 1 to Beomeosa Station. From there, a short bus ride or taxi will take you directly to the temple. Alternatively, you can enjoy a scenic walk through the forest from the station.

Are there any special programs or events at Beomeosa Temple?

Beomeosa Temple offers Templestay programs on certain Saturdays, providing a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere. It's advisable to check availability two months in advance. Avoid major events like Buddha's Birthday, as the program may not be available then.
