Fantastic 5.0
My first visit to Ginzan Onsen two years ago was met with a breathtaking blizzard. I was stunned by the beauty but also frozen by the temperature. Although I enjoyed the purest essence of Taisho Romance, the heavy snowfall prevented me from taking many photos, leaving me with only one picture and a lingering regret. This time, I decided to revisit with my camera to recapture those memories. Without the overwhelming snow and bustling crowds, I could better appreciate the retro charm of the place. I finally got to see the waterfall I missed last time, explore the mine I hadn't visited, and browse the small shops I couldn't properly explore before. Ginzan without the snow offered a different kind of serene elegance. This dream-fulfilling trip finally allowed me to make up for that beautiful regret from years ago. A special shout-out to the incredibly generous and delicious set lunch; I even thought it was extravagant. The plating was truly a work of art, and I thank the travel agency for their thoughtfulness.

Our tour guide for the past two days was Tony, and he took very good care of us. He even gave us small gifts. It was very cold when we went to Ginzan Onsen, and he gave us heat packs. He also gave us heat packs and chocolate on the second day. When we couldn't enter the Fox Village, he found a way for us to go somewhere else. We went to Shiroishi Castle, which was very beautiful and worth a walk and taking some pictures. The driver was also very nice, drove very smoothly, and greeted everyone warmly when getting on and off the bus. We happened to encounter heavy snow when we went to Ginzan Onsen, which was very beautiful. On the second day, we went to the Zao Snow Monsters, and we were incredibly lucky! The weather was very clear. Although we couldn't ride the cable car to the very top because there were too many individual travelers, it was still very beautiful and worth it! I heard that the day before we went, Zao had a big snowstorm and the visibility was very poor, but the weather was clear blue skies today! So lucky~ We stayed at Kamesei Ryokan. The hotel looks very historical, but it's maintained quite cleanly. The rooms are also very large, and the breakfast is rich and delicious, with both traditional Japanese and Western breakfasts. Thank you to the tour guide and driver for their hard work these past two days! 👍

Fantastic 5.0
I personally think the overall experience was great however, The part i think need to be looked into is the time allowed for lunch break the highway stop is a little short. Other than that good job to the guide for the arrangement and hospitality.

I booked 2D1N trip to Ginsen Onsen and Mouny Zao via Klook. travel with GogoDay and tour guide Tony Chiu. The driver and Tony are friendly and takes great care everyone. he tried his best to explain things and introduce the places in Chinese, Japanese and English. Also, he is so kind, prepared and provided some warm packs and Japanese sweets for us. Because our group have 50+ mixed with different countries travellers. thank you so much Tony. will strongly recommend this tour to friends and hope we can join your tour group next time!

It was a beautiful trip and definitely worth booking. It was an amazing experience and one we will remember for life. Our tour guide Jud was extremely helpful and everything you would ever want as a tour guide. He was kind, respectful, accomodating, and most of all organized. He was able to guide such a large group of people so well and still kept the experience personal. We will definitely be recommending this to all of our friends. Shout out to Jud!!

Great 4.0
The train ride from Tokyo to Yamagata is four hours, but there are short breaks in between, so it's not too tiring. The tour guide, Mr. Ma, did an excellent job with the itinerary. The scenery in Yamagata is beautiful, especially since this tour covers all the major attractions in Yamagata in one go. The hotel stay with two meals was also abundant, and there was a nice hot spring. The only drawback is that the tour bus was a bit small; it would be perfect if a larger tour bus were used.

The tour guide was very thoughtful! We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel, and the nine-seater van was full. The timing was perfectly managed, and the guide even gave us a brief introduction to the sights. It's a shame it rained the whole time we were there, which made it a bit more challenging! Even so, we still felt that overall, it was a great one-day trip! Not tiring at all! Highly recommend it to everyone.

Fantastic 5.0
Coach Xiao Hei is very patient and explains things clearly and simply, ensuring that we understand the techniques of each movement. Beginners can learn how to ski, and intermediate skiers can try new moves. The coach will always be by your side. Whether you are a beginner or someone who wants to further correct your movements to take the ski exam, Xiao Hei can guide and correct small details based on each person's movements. He observes our movements very carefully and is very professional. Xiao Hei also helped us take videos and photos. Highly recommended! Sincerely thank you Xiao Hei for teaching us and giving us a very complete skiing experience!

What to know before visiting Yamagata

Year-round highlights and busiest seasons

Yamagata’s top bookings are led by Outdoor & sports activities, followed by Tours, and demand swings strongly through the year — the busiest period is in January while summer months see much lower interest. Expect a winter spike for outdoor experiences and a quieter shoulder season through late spring and early summer.

Best activities for families, couples and solo travellers

Families often choose Outdoor & sports activities because they range from entry-level experiences to more adventurous options that suit mixed-ability groups. Couples will find Tours appealing for relaxed, guided ways to see the region and its culture. Solo travellers and small groups can pick between the wide range within Outdoor & sports activities for flexible, independent outings or join Tours for a structured option.

What travellers from Malaysia should book ahead

Most visitors to Yamagata have moderate planning horizons, with bookings typically made around ten days in advance and the earliest planners booking about three weeks out; that matters most in the January peak. If you travel in peak months, lock in key activities earlier, while visits in quieter months allow more flexibility and last-minute choices.

How the main categories compare on price and fit

Outdoor & sports activities are the easiest entry point and also show the widest price spread, from budget-friendly options up to higher-end experiences, making them suitable for a broad range of travellers and budgets. Tours sit toward the higher end on average and tend to suit visitors who prefer convenience and guided interpretation. If you want the broadest choice and the simplest ways to tailor cost and intensity, start with Outdoor & sports activities; choose Tours when you prioritise structure and local insight.
