What We Know So Far About Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan
Attention all Mario fans, it’s time to set aside your consoles and transform into your favourite Mario character at the upcoming Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan! Exact details are still scarce, but here’s a quick summary of what we know so far.
Getting tickets to Universal Studios Japan
While it is not yet announced if you will require additional tickets to enter Super Nintendo World, you will need a ticket to enter Universal Studios Japan. Pre-book your tickets on Klook to skip the lines and enter the park directly with your mobile e-voucher.
With so much to see and do in the new Super Nintendo World, the last thing you’d want is to be waiting in line. Pair your admission ticket with a Universal Express Pass to skip the line to some of the park’s most popular attractions like The Flying Dinosaur, giving you more time for Super Nintendo World!
1. It’s opening by July in Universal Studios Japan
Super Nintendo World will launch this summer ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as part of Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. What is Super Nintendo World though?
“Think of Super Nintendo World as a life-size, living video game where you become one of the characters. You’re not just playing the game; you’re living the game, you’re living the adventure,” said Thierry Coup, the Senior Vice President, Chief Creative Officer, Universal Creative, in the global kick-off presentation event held on 14 January 2020.
2. Take the chequered flag in a real-life Mario Kart ride
No more challenging your friends in the arcade. Instead, step right into the driver’s seat of your very own Mario Kart in what is said to be an “ultra-immersive” experience! Super Nintendo World will also bring to life Nintendo’s most iconic locations, including Mushroom Kingdom, Peach’s Castle, and Bowser’s Castle!
You can even ride on the back of Yoshi to explore Super Nintendo World!
3. Collect Coins and Climb the Leaderboard with a Power Up Band
What’s a video game if you can’t emerge champion at the end of the day right? Super Nintendo World visitors will have to buy a Power Up Band and pair it with the Universal Studios Japan app on your phone to enjoy the full immersive experience. The Power Up Bands are themed to different characters, so you can wear one based on your favorite Mushroom Kingdom character!
That’s when the real game starts! While wearing a Power Up Band, you can hit a real-life ‘?’ Block and collect coins. Don’t slack off as the total number of coins earned will be used to rank everybody in the park! Unleash your competitive spirit and clock in your best score!
4. Work together to fight the Boss
Take your Super Nintendo World experience to the next level by fighting the ‘Boss’ with your family, friends, and fellow visitors! With your Power Up Bands, you can take part in “Key Challenges” across the area to collect digital ‘keys’. You can then use these ‘keys’ and work with other visitors to unlock additional gameplay opportunities, including “Boss Battles” against enemy characters!
5. Spot more Mario experiences in this MTV
Universal Studios Japan also dropped the “We Are Born to Play” music video, which is a collaboration between internationally-known dance music duo, Galantis and global pop superstar Charli XCX. It’s said to showcase the activities based on the real and interactive experiences available at Super Nintendo World like hitting the ‘?’ Blocks to gather coins. What else can you spot?
6. Super Nintendo World is also coming to Singapore!
While Universal Studios Japan will be the first Universal theme park to feature Super Nintendo World, it was also announced that the themed land will be coming to Universal Studios Singapore! When exactly would that be? We have no idea, but we honestly can’t wait!
