5 reasons we can’t wait for the remake of Disney’s Mulan

Disney’s Mulan is a classic that many of us grew up with, the tale of a young Chinese woman, Hua Mulan, who disguises herself as a man and takes her father's place in the army. Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animation will definitely be epic and here’s why we can’t wait to catch it in cinemas.
As reported in Yahoo news, the teaser trailer of the live-action Mulan nabbed more than 175 million views globally in its first 24 hours. If you haven’t watched the trailer, check it out below:

    1. The Cast

The role of Mulan will be played by Chinese actress Liu Yifei, best known for her work in The Forbidden Kingdom and Outcast and the role of the villain will be played by Gong Li, whose other films include Memoirs of a Geisha and Hannibal Rising.
Other big names include Chinese actor Donnie Yen who will play Commander Tung, Mulan’s mentor and Jet Li who will take on the role of the emperor.

    2. Mulan overcomes all odds

Women were expected to prepare for marriage and only men were believed to be capable of serving the Imperial Army. Yet when Mulan’s father was required to serve, she defied those norms and masqueraded as a man, to take the place of her ailing father.
Against all odds, Mulan stayed true to herself, remained determined, fearless,  and emerged as one of the greatest warriors.

Forget the damsel in distress, this live-action retelling of Disney’s Mulan is set to kick ass! Challenging the status quo, Disney’s Mulan is definitely a symbol of girl power. She took it upon herself to do the right thing even if it meant never seeing her family again.
We also teared up when Mulan’s father replied to the general“ I was blessed with two daughters”.

    3. Amazing production sets

We love the training scenes of the warriors getting ready for battle. With the warriors in training starting out unable to shoot an arrow, the trailer progresses to show they end up in complete sync with one another.
To achieve these extraordinary battle scenes, the filmmakers brought in stunt teams from China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and more. There were even over 400 weapons specially made for the film.
There are so many epic battle scenes and the action is unreal! Between flying arrows, running up walls and the villain transforming into a hawk, the fight scenes surely won’t be the same without the amazing cast of warriors and their weapons.

The epic battle of the live-action retelling of Disney’s Mulan was filmed in New Zealand, against stunning backdrops of mountains and huge fields. Some other New Zealand film locations include Ahuriri Valley, the Omarama Clay Cliffs, Poolburn, and Mount Cook.
The scene of Mulan riding across a colourful mountain range is likely to be Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park in Zhangye, Northwest China.

    4. Reimagined version of the original legend "The Ballad of Mulan,"

Much to the dismay of many fans, the live-action movie will not be a musical, after all, no one breaks out into song in the midst of a battle. Mulan’s dragon sidekick Mushu will also not be appearing in the live-action retelling.

    5. New characters

There has been an entirely new addition to the storyline in the form of a new female antagonist - the Witch played by Gong Li. Many already know that she is a powerhouse and an acting veteran, as we’ve seen what she can do as the wicked head geisha Hatsumono in Memoirs of a Geisha.
While some of us might remember Li Shang who plays Mulan’s love interest in the original animated movie. The live-action retelling will not feature Li Shang but instead include a character named Chen Honghui. Honghui is a member of Commander Tung’s unit and whether or not sparks fly, we’ll have to wait and see!
