What to expect
Immerse yourself in the Japanese tea ceremony, a tradition rooted in Zen Buddhism and celebrated in Kyoto. In the art of preparing matcha (powdered green tea), every mindful gesture carries deep significance. Your host, Rie, a Kyoto native, is a second-degree instructor of the Urasenke School of tea ceremony. In 2015, she founded her own tea ceremony business to share the beauty of this traditional culture.
In this experience, you will savor organic matcha tea from Uji, brewed by Rie, followed by a hands-on tea-making lesson. Complement your tea with a traditional Japanese sweet. The experience includes a tea ceremony and a tasting and brewing experience. For cultural immersion, there is also an optional kimono-wearing package available.

Reviews
We enjoyed learning the respectful culture around a traditional tea ceremony. Her ability to teach us in Japanese and English was great for our group. We even got to experience whisking matcha ourselves. Highly recommend.
We had a lovely experience . Our guide took the tea ceremony very seriously, which added to the experience. My hubby and I dressed up and looked amazing in our kimono’s.
Our experience with the Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience in Kyoto was very enjoyable overall, with the Klook booking process being smooth and convenient, providing clear instructions and easy coordination. The pricing feels reasonable considering the cultural value and authenticity of the experience. The facilities were clean, peaceful, and well-maintained, creating a traditional atmosphere that enhanced the overall experience. Staff and hosts were welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable, explaining the tea ceremony process in a clear and engaging way. The highlight was learning about the traditions behind matcha preparation and participating in the ceremony firsthand, which offered a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture. The calm setting and attention to detail made the experience feel both relaxing and memorable. Overall, it is a worthwhile and highly recommended cultural activity for travelers visiting Kyoto.
we loved the ceremonial piece of this tea ceremony. It was beautiful to just get a peek behind the curtain of true Japanese culture. The instructor is fantastic. We did a private tour which I would recommend, with kimonos.
Very nice tea ceremony experience with beautiful traditional kimonos and a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere! 😊 We learned about the tea culture and making, we tried different matcha teas and we could also try to make our own matcha tea. It is a really special and beautiful memory for me! 😊🥰 Thank you so much! 😊
The tea ceremony was good. The tea master (not sure if a lady is also a master). she was very knowledgeable and explained it well. she also accommodated the guests who could not sit on the mat by giving stools. The Matcha was delicious and I would do it again. I loved the Kimono choices on offer.
beautiful experience. The kimonos were beautiful and our tea master was amazing and explained everything so eloquently.
An amazing experience, our tea master was so kind and accommodating. She made the experience so special and we learnt so much!
I am do happy I got to experience a traditional tea ceremony. It is something I have always dreamed of doing.
This was an interesting experience, loved dressing up and being taken through the whole tea ceremony experience. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although my son was not a big fan of the taste. The location was easy to find and get to, close to other sightseeing opportunities, the instructor was very good, and gave us a real insight to the whole tea ceremony.
