Fantastic

I loved staying here. This is in a great area of downtown Kyoto where it is super walkable and there is easy access to trains and buses. The staff is so kind and accommodating and the Japanese breakfast is super delicious. It was nice to get the ryokan/ minshuku (ish) traditional experience with the amenities and comfort of a proper hotel. I don't know why anyone would stay at a traditional western hotel while in Kyoto, this is the real Japanese hotel experience in my opinion. The tatami mat room was clean and comfortable and the futon was thick enough to be comfortable and the pillow was half and half buckwheat so it was supportive without being too hard. I will note that if you have a bad back or challenges sleeping on the floor then opt for the western rooms but I found the Japanese style room to be super comfy and even my partner who is 6'4" with back issues said he was very comfortable sleeping on the futon.

Fantastic
Was a pretty good ryokan. Was pretty clean for a ryokan, it’s a bit old so that’s kind of the feel to it. Very helpful staff, they even make up the futon for you. More convenient plug ins would be great but I made do

The location of Kamogawa-kan Inn is excellent. A few blocks from a train station, and walking distance to many interesting areas (historical, shopping, eating). Our room was VERY spacious. Huge room for sleeping, a side room which was great to open our large suitcases, toilet room, shower/bath room & sink room. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and delicious. We had dinner there one night: Wagyu Shabu Shabu. It was good but not on the scale of tastiness of our breakfasts. They have a public bath downstairs that was well maintained. We would definitely stay there again!

Staff is wonderful to say the least. Breakfast was authentic Japanese and delicious. We loved our stay; it was jmpeccable. The Ryokan is central to many things and right next to downtown Kyoto as well. Not far from the shoppng district and Nishiki Market! Highly recommended!

Great

I recently stayed at Kamogawa-kan Inn and had a generally pleasant experience. The highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the traditional Japanese breakfast, which was beautifully prepared and among the best I’ve had. The inn is clean and well-maintained, though the facilities do feel somewhat dated. While the futon provided an authentic touch, it was a bit too firm for my comfort. Overall, Kamogawa-kan offers a genuine traditional experience, and I would recommend it to those seeking cultural immersion with some minor considerations.

The staff were so kind and accommodating, and very attentive to all our questions and special requests, even helping with luggage delivery to our next hotel. We loved the traditional Japanese-style accommodations and onsen! The location is perfect for easy public transportation access and walkable to old Kyoto and the Gion district.

A humble Kyoto experience! Many local traditions were highlighted during our stay, from the traditional breakfast, futon bedding and friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel amenities, including the onsen. The hotel was located very close to the Nishiki market and shopping districts, as well as train and bus stops close to major attractions (eg Fushimi Inari). We recommend staying here for a true cultural experience in the heart of the action in Kyoto!
