Fantastic 5.0
I was bit concerned about this tour agency as they haven't contacted us till 7pm on the previous day regarding pick up details. After that we tried to contact them and they confirmed the pick up time and told pick up will be from hotel. But next morning the driver contacted us as he could not see us in the pickup location which was 7 minute walk from the hotel. We had to rush to that point since the bus was waiting for us. All except this mis communication was good. We have provided 3 hours time in heiropolin for sight seeing. 3 hours wont be sufficient to cover the whole area and ancient city within the same premise. They halted for breakfast. The lunch was an awesome buffet.

Great 4.0
this was a fun experience. however it was with a somewhat of a safari truck. which was open on all sides that made it a little to cold for my taste. 20 degrees with a cold wind not ideal. The music in the car was extremely loud, made me think the experience is for 20 year olds. Having said that the places themselves that we visited where absolutely stunning, you have to pay entry for the second location the caves, which is 200 lira or 4,5 euro. anyways for a 20 euro booking well worth the trip with a very kind guide and driver. so do yourself a favor and book this trip

Fantastic 5.0
There was a shuttle service to the hotel. We were the first queue for the 10:00 AM slot, which was great. This is an activity you should definitely do when visiting Turkey. It includes a sauna, massage, and Turkish bath, lasting almost 2 hours. The establishment then provided transportation back to the hotel.

About Alanya

Alanya is a captivating Mediterranean city where a rich, 20,000-year history meets the vibrant energy of a modern Turkish resort. Originally known in antiquity as Coracesium, its strategic rocky peninsula served as a stronghold for successive empires, including the Ptolemaic, Roman, and Byzantine. The city reached its political and cultural zenith in the 13th century under the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Kayqubad I, who transformed it into a winter capital and commissioned its most iconic landmarks, such as the red-brick Kızıl Kule (Red Tower) and the sprawling Alanya Castle.

Today, Alanya is a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List site, offering visitors a unique blend of "living history" within its medieval walls, world-famous golden sands like Cleopatra Beach, and natural wonders such as the health-giving Damlataş Cave. This rare combination of archaeological depth, dramatic Taurus Mountain backdrops, and warm Turkish hospitality makes it an essential destination for those seeking both sun-soaked relaxation and an authentic journey through the layers of Mediterranean civilization.

Top Places to Visit in Alanya

  1. Alanya Castle (Alanya Kalesi)

The undisputed crown jewel of the city, this medieval fortress stretches across a rocky promontory overlooking the sea. You can reach the summit via a scenic hike, by car, or the popular cable car. At night, the castle walls are illuminated, creating a magical silhouette against the dark Mediterranean sky.

2. Red Tower (Kızıl Kule)

This 33-meter-high octagonal tower is Alanya’s most iconic landmark. Built in 1226 to protect the shipyard, its name comes from the distinct red bricks used in its construction. Climb its internal stairs to reach the top for a panoramic view of the harbor that is especially breathtaking at sunset.

Located just a short walk from the Red Tower, this is the only remaining Seljuk Shipyard (Tersane). It’s a series of five arched bays carved into the rock at the water's edge. You can wander through the half-underground chambers to see old ship replicas and enjoy the mystical atmosphere where the sea meets ancient stone.

3. Sapadere Canyon

Sapadere Canyon is a breathtaking natural sanctuary nestled in the Taurus Mountains, offering a refreshing escape just 45 kilometers from the bustling center of Alanya. This pristine gorge, which opened to travelers in 2008, features a 750-meter wooden walkway that leads visitors past cascading waterfalls and dramatic rock formations shaped over millennia by wind and water.Renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise pools where the water temperature rarely exceeds 12°C, it is the ultimate destination for those seeking a cool dip and an immersive journey into Turkey's untouched mountain wilderness.

4. Damlataş Cave

Located right at the foot of the castle hill, this cave was discovered by accident in 1948. Its stalactites and stalagmites date back 15,000 years. The cave is famous for its constant temperature (22°C) and high humidity, which many locals believe helps relieve respiratory issues like asthma.

5. Damlataş Beach

Known for its striking white pebbles and crystal-clear azure water, Damlataş Beach sits on the eastern side of the peninsula. It offers a unique vantage point where you can swim while looking up at the Alanya Castle and the cable cars gliding overhead.

6. Alanya Cable Car (Alanya Teleferik)

For the ultimate aerial view of the Turkish Riviera, the Alanya Cable Car is an experience you can’t miss. This 900-meter-long lift transports you from the sands of Damlataş Beach to the historic outskirts of Alanya Castle in just 6 minutes. You can skip the steep uphill climb and enjoy a bird’s-eye perspective of the Mediterranean’s deep blue waters, the golden shores of Kleopatra Beach, and the ancient city walls.

7. Antalya Kaleiçi Old Town

Antalya Kaleiçi, the city's enchanting Old Town, is a living open-air museum where narrow cobblestone streets wind through 2,000 years of history.Enclosed by ancient Roman walls, this historic core showcases a stunning blend of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman architecture, most famously marked by the monumental Hadrian’s Gate.Travelers can lose themselves in a labyrinth of restored Ottoman mansions, vibrant art galleries, and boutique cafes that lead directly to the picturesque Old Harbor.Whether you’re exploring the iconic Fluted Minaret or enjoying a sunset over the Mediterranean, Kaleiçi offers an authentic and immersive journey into the heart of Turkey’s cultural heritage.

8. Kleopatra Beach

Legend has it that Mark Antony gifted this beach to Cleopatra herself. Unlike the pebbly shores elsewhere, this 2 km stretch on the west side of town features fine golden sand. Its clear "azure" waters are perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot summer day.

9. Tophane district

Tophane is a vibrant waterfront district famous for its lively atmosphere and abundance of traditional hookah cafes. The neighborhood seamlessly blends history with modern culture, housing the 16th-century Kılıç Ali Paşa Turkish Bath, the 18th-century Mahmud Han Fountain, and the Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center. Its bustling streets are packed with a diverse mix of shops and restaurants, while the nearby Galata Port Istanbul offers even more premium retail and dining options for visitors to explore.

10. Alanya Archaeological Museum

Located at the entrance to the Alanya Castle climb on Damlataş Street, the Alanya Archaeological Museum has been a must-visit cultural landmark since 1967. Designed by architect İhsan Kıygı, the museum showcases the city’s transition from the ancient settlement of Korakesium to the vibrant Alanya of today. After a major renovation in 2012 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the museum now offers a modernized experience, exhibiting a rich collection of archaeological and ethnographic artifacts that bring the history of the mountainous Cilicia region to life.

What to Eat in Alanya

  • Alanya Bohçası: A local breakfast specialty similar to a crepe, stuffed with cheese or meat.
  • Fresh Seafood: Head to the harbor (İskele) for the catch of the day, typically served with seasonal mezes.
  • Pottery Kebab: While common across Turkey, Alanya’s restaurants serve a delicious Mediterranean version slow-cooked in a clay jug.
  • Orange & Banana Delights: Alanya is famous for its citrus and "dwarf" bananas; don't leave without trying a fresh banana smoothie or local orange jam.

Tips for Your Alanya Travel

  • Stay central for easy Access: Most historical landmarks are clustered around the harbor and the central peninsula. Booking a hotel in this area makes the city's top attractions easily walkable.
  • Save with a combined Museum Pass: If you plan to visit Alanya Castle, the Red Tower, and the Old Shipyard, ask for a combined ticket at the first stop to save on total entry fees.
  • Beat the heat - Start early: Alanya summers can be very warm. Start your day with a traditional breakfast in the Tophane district, then explore the castle and outdoor ruins before the midday sun peaks.
  • Group your sightseeing: Many highlights are neighbors! You can easily visit Damlataş Cave, Damlataş Beach, and Kleopatra Beach in one single outing without the need for extra transport.
  • Keep cash handy: While major restaurants and hotels accept credit cards, you’ll need Turkish Lira (TRY) for smaller cafes, local markets (bazaars), and authentic souvenir shops.
