Rent a car in Nagasaki
Discover Nagasaki at Your Own Pace
Renting a car in Nagasaki offers unparalleled freedom to explore the city's unique attractions and historical sites. Drive to the Peace Park, commemorating the atomic bombing, or visit the Glover Garden for a scenic view of the harbor. With your own vehicle, you can also venture to the nearby Goto Islands or take a leisurely drive along the coast, experiencing the region's beauty without the constraints of public transportation schedules.
Vehicle Inspection and Rental Agreement
Upon receiving your rental car, conduct a thorough inspection and document any pre-existing damage to ensure you're not held responsible upon return. Familiarize yourself with the rental contract, noting the mileage allowance, fuel policy, insurance details, and any additional charges. To avoid refueling fees, remember to top off the tank before returning the car. If you're running late, contact the rental agency to discuss extending your rental to prevent late return penalties.
Child Safety Measures
In Japan, child passengers must be secured in appropriate car seats or booster seats depending on their age. Confirm with your rental agency in Nagasaki that they can provide the necessary child safety equipment and whether it will be pre-installed in the vehicle. Traveling without proper child restraints is not only unsafe but also against the law.
Navigating Nagasaki Traffic
While Nagasaki may not experience the same level of congestion as Tokyo, it's still wise to avoid rush hour traffic, typically between 7-9 am and 5-7 pm. Plan your routes to steer clear of busy roads during these times. Also, be cautious when driving in unfamiliar areas, as some local roads may be narrow or steep, particularly in the city's hilly regions.
Cost-Effective Exploration
Compared to the expense of taxis or the complexity of public transport, renting a car can be an economical choice for touring Nagasaki and its surroundings. Modern rental vehicles often come equipped with GPS systems to assist with navigation, allowing you to visit distant attractions like the Huis Ten Bosch theme park or the Shimabara Peninsula without the stress of getting lost.
Convenient Rental Locations
In Nagasaki, you can find car rental services at convenient locations, including the airport and major train stations. This accessibility allows you to select a vehicle that suits your preferences and budget from a variety of reputable rental companies, ensuring a smooth start to your journey as soon as you arrive.
Driving in Japan
Remember that in Japan, vehicles drive on the left side of the road. Road signs on major routes are usually bilingual in Japanese and English, but it's beneficial to have a vehicle with an English GPS system, especially for navigating less-traveled roads. Always adhere to traffic laws, such as not crossing solid lane lines, yielding to bicycles, and stopping at railway crossings. Japan has strict anti-drunk driving laws, so ensure you have a sober driver at the wheel at all times.

Fantastic Dayz Nissan 1 days
The staff are absolutely lovely. Despite the language barrier they managed to get us in a car and on the road. Such a lovely family feel & they couldn’t do enough to help us. We had an absolutely awful experience in Korea so we were so happy with this one.
