Sunset Kayak Tour in Okinawa

The absolute highlight of my Okinawa trip was this sunset kayak tour! I was feeling down because it rained for three days straight after arriving in Okinawa, but as soon as I got into the kayak, the rain stopped, a double rainbow appeared, and the sun came out :) I was truly happy watching the sunset. However, the water near the kayak launch area was incredibly murky before heading out to sea, which made me a bit hesitant to put my feet in (it felt like muddy water). Anyway, your shoes and clothes will definitely get wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops, and if you don't like getting your clothes wet, definitely bring a raincoat!!! I highly recommend kayaking on a nice day 🙌🏻

Tonight three of us, and maybe 9 other people, joined Miku the tour guide for a trip kayaking to see the mangrove trees and the sunset. Miku was brilliant. Friendly, fun and informative, we felt safe throughout the trip. We were loaned life jackets, crocs if needed, a secure container for our car keys and a waterproof cover for our phones. Instruction on how to kayak was clear and easy to follow. At the meeting point there were suitable toilet facilities and vending machines to get fluids if wanted. The whole trip was magical. We were able to take lots of our own photos but Miku also took lots of each of the groups of people throughout the trip and sent them to us afterwards. We cannot recommend this trip highly enough, truly spectacular. We have great photos to remember our trip. Thanks for a fabulous evening!

Today is definitely a lucky day! It was raining on our first day in Okinawa, and today we were the only group, but we decided to take a chance and go kayaking anyway. The second half of the day cleared up, and we saw an absolutely excellent sunset! Our guide was super nice and showed us lots of mangroves and other natural scenery! Highly recommend!

The activity location is very convenient and easily accessible. It was easy for me to get to the meeting point by bus on my own 📍This was my first time kayaking in Okinawa, and I had a great time seeing the beautiful Okinawan sunset 🧡 The instructor, Miku, was kind and friendly, and the entire route was smooth and safe 👍 She also helped take a lot of photos, which I really appreciate 💕 I recommend this to anyone visiting Okinawa! 👍

we loved this experience. our guide was super nice! he took lots of personalise videos and photos and sent it to us afterwards. the scenery was beautiful and was lucky to have such a wonderful sunset.

kayak experience: Today's kayaking tour was a lot of fun because our guide, Miku, took us to all the beautiful spots by kayak and took some really great photos of us, which was awesome. This was the most enjoyable experience during my trip to Okinawa. The first-time kayaking was fun, and I was truly happy while listening to my favorite music and watching the beautiful sunset and shimmering reflections on the river. They sent me a confirmation and various instructions via KakaoTalk, but when I actually went there, I could borrow shorts, Crocs, and towels for free. There are no additional costs, so if you don't want to bother with laundry or drying, it's okay to borrow them. As for clothing, your lower body will get wet to your underwear, and your sleeves will get quite wet due to water dripping from the paddle. It's freshwater, not seawater. There are separate tent changing rooms and lockers for convenience, but there are no showers, so if you're particular about cleanliness, it's a good idea to bring two towels and wipe your body with a wet towel. You can only bring your phone and car keys on the kayak, and they provide a waterproof phone case and a car key necklace. The provided waterproof case has been used, so the photos may come out blurry. Upon arrival, register at the tent and after confirming your reservation/number of people, they will tell you about the changing rooms, restrooms, and what to prepare. Once everyone is ready, each person receives a life jacket and paddle, and after explaining how to get on the boat and how to paddle on land, everyone practices briefly. They explain easily in Japanese and English, and the paddles are not heavy, so even beginners can handle it without feeling burdened. Before kayaking, take a commemorative photo while standing and holding the paddle, then enter the river in pairs or alone. I booked the experience for 4 pm, but it took about 30 minutes to get to this point, so I actually started kayaking around 4:30 pm. The guide rides a kayak together, matching the speed while moving, explaining various things, and taking lots of great photos. Going upstream the Hija River, you can see the mangrove forest, and when you get used to kayaking, you move to the mouth of the sea, watch the sunset inside the river where the waves don't hit, change clothes, return the borrowed items, and receive the photos, and it's over. It was an experience I want to come back to with other family or friends.

We had such a memorable kayaking experience during our wedding anniversary. Miku-san and the UMIUSAGI team were incredibly friendly and attentive. They went above and beyond with thoughtful touches—photography, videography, and sharing their knowledge about the mangrove ecosystem. We’re already looking forward to returning. You'll go from the Ganghwa estuary all the way to the open sea where the waves really crash. As it's a sunset kayak tour, you'll stay out on the open sea until sunset. The sun is strong when you set off, but it won't be a problem when the sun starts to set. The wind also blows a lot, so the heat isn't a big issue either. However, I got seasick from the constant waves while staying in the open sea until sunset. If you're prone to motion sickness, please keep that in mind. You might find yourself asking the guide, "Are we going back yet?" ;( Even if it's your first time kayaking, you can ride without any problems. Highly recommended.
