Guide

A popular spot in Mojiko that railway enthusiasts and families with children shouldn't miss!

Step into the historic red-brick building and get up close to steam locomotives that once ran across Kyushu, classic retired trains, and precious railway artifacts, experiencing the railway's development trajectory across eras in Kyushu. The museum also features a large railway model, a train driving simulator, and a mini-train experience that visitors can operate themselves. Whether you're a railway enthusiast, a family with children, or a traveler looking to delve deeper into Kyushu's culture, you'll find different joys in visiting.

Meiji Red Brick Main Building - Railway History Collection This building was converted from the former headquarters of the Kyushu Railway Company during the Meiji era. It houses valuable materials on railway development, models of trains from various eras, tickets, and railway supplies, fully showcasing the railway’s trajectory across different periods.

Meiji Wooden Passenger Car Step into a wooden passenger car actually used during the Meiji era. See the rare tatami seating from that time, complemented by character displays and sound effects, to experience the atmosphere of train travel a hundred years ago.

Mini Railway Park | Become a Little Train Driver At the outdoor Mini Railway Park, visitors can not only ride mini trains but also experience operating them themselves. The park features single and double tracks, signals, and turnout equipment, simulating a real railway environment. It is Japan’s first mini railway where visitors can experience operating a train like a real one. The mini trains are designed based on representative JR Kyushu models, including the “885 Series Kamome,” “787 Series Tsubame,” “883 Series Sonic,” “Yufuin no Mori,” and “813 Series Electric Train.” Both families with children and railway enthusiasts can enjoy a fun driving experience. (The mini train driving experience is not included in this product’s ticket and requires separate payment on-site: 300 yen per train per ride, for up to 3 people; operations may be suspended during rain or strong winds, please refer to on-site announcements.)

Outdoor Vehicle Exhibition Area Get up close to classic actual trains that were active in Kyushu, including precious vehicles such as the C59 and 9600 type steam locomotives. Some of the exhibited vehicles can also be entered for viewing, allowing close observation of seats, driver’s cabs, and train equipment.

Train Driving Simulator The museum features an 811 series train driving simulator, allowing visitors to experience the joy of driving a train through actual route footage. Please refer to on-site announcements for the availability, participation methods, and fees of each facility.
