What to expect
This is a fun day trip, covering classic attractions such as the Takachiho Amaterasu Railway experience + Takachiho Gorge hike + Amano Iwato Shrine in one day~
- Takachiho Gorge [Solo travelers will share a boat with other passengers, please understand] Known as one of “Japan’s most beautiful gorges,” it brings together all the romantic elements of waterfalls, gorges, and mountains. 🌊 Get into a hand-rowed boat and paddle through the depths of the gorge, looking up to see the spectacular view of Manai Falls cascading from above. 🍃 Take a walk along the trail, every step surrounded by lush greenery, making it a very comfortable scenic route for strolling and taking photos.
- Takachiho Sightseeing Train A slow journey on an old railway, preserving the most original appearance of Kyushu’s countryside. The open-air train travels through the mountains, with simple and tranquil scenery along the way.
- Amano Iwato Shrine Quiet and sacred, it is a key stage in the “Amano Iwato myth.” 🌌 Deep inside the cave are piles of stacked stone towers, said to be traces left by devotees after making wishes, creating a mysterious yet not oppressive atmosphere. 🍂 Along the way, streams gurgle and birds chirp, making it a healing journey that calms both body and mind.
Takachiho Gorge has many steps and requires a round-trip hike of about 30 minutes. It is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes. It is not recommended for those with mobility issues to participate. Thank you.
Note⚠️: The Takachiho boat ride project is for groups of 2-3 people sharing one boat. Solo travelers will share a boat with other group members. In case of force majeure leading to the cancellation of the boat ride, a refund of 2000 JPY per person will be issued. Due to potential failures in the online ticketing system for Takachiho boat rides, if you have purchased a package that includes tickets, we will do our best to purchase them for you. If we are unable to purchase them, we will notify you via email at least 4 days in advance. Thank you for your understanding!

Reviews summaryWe had a wonderful experience on the Takachiho Gorge tour and would definitely recommend it. The scenery at the gorge was absolutely stunning, and the itinerary was well planned with enough time to enjoy each stop. Our guide was friendly, organized, and shared interesting information throughout the trip. Transportation was comfortable, making it a relaxing and enjoyable day. Overall, it was a great way to visit Takachiho without worrying about logistics. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
This was the highlight of my Kyushu trip! Takachiho Gorge was absolutely stunning, and the boat ride offered incredible views of the waterfalls and cliffs. The Takachiho Railway experience was unique and provided amazing mountain scenery. Amano-Iwato Shrine was peaceful and rich in Japanese culture and history. The guide was professional and organized, making the long journey smooth and enjoyable. Definitely worth the trip from Fukuoka and a must-do for nature lovers.
We went to all the places listed in the itinerary. We were lucky the weather was really nice today, so the train was open for operation and the river at the gorge was very clear. Our tour guide, Ms. Yang, was very nice and friendly and knowledgeable about mythology and facts about the locality. She gives you decent time to explore the areas on your own if you're that type of person, rather than follow her around all day as long as you meet up at the agreed time. She can also help you with restaurant bookings in Fukuoka, if you're interested in that.
We had a great time in this tour. Selina is warm and responsive host and the tour destinations are all worth it. To experience seeing takachiho gorge up close and to ride the railway is a must to enjoy your kyushu trip. no issues encountered during the trip too. we had enough stop overs, we are given time to eat and explore on our own too.
A very good excursion even though the boat was not accessible due to weather and river rising. Our guide Selena was very great and professionnal. We had a very pleasant time. The road trip was very comfortable.
This was a very enjoyable trip. I’ve attached some photos from the journey. The tour was well organized, and everything was conducted according to the itinerary. I was guided by Nicole, who did an excellent job handling the trip and assisting everyone throughout the journey. She was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend this tour...😍😍
we really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide Aki was so efficient and made sure that we are enjoying and we get the best spot. She's on time always and always reminded us of our itinerary and informed us if there are changes
The tour was epic! Ms. Nicole Yang, our tourist guide, introduce us to each of the spots and narrated the history and background to give us context on each of the places. Takachiho Gorge was a paradise among these places. I just kinda hoped there’s more places to be included in this tour.
Today, I participated in Klook's Takachiho day tour, and the overall experience was very satisfying. The itinerary was well-planned, and the timing was just right – not too rushed, but still covering all the key attractions. Our tour guide, Kevin, was very professional and attentive. Along the way, he proactively shared information about Takachiho's history, mythological background, and best photo spots. His explanations were clear and engaging. He patiently answered all our questions and made sure to accommodate everyone's pace, making the entire trip very comfortable. Takachiho itself is truly beautiful, especially the gorge and shrine areas; it's definitely worth a special visit. Arranging transportation independently can be quite inconvenient, so joining a day tour saved a lot of hassle. Thanks to Kevin's guidance today, this trip left me with wonderful memories. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy way to explore Takachiho. Five-star review!
Very clear pre tour information provided by tour agency over WhatsApp. Majority of the people in the bus came from Hong Kong and Taiwan and my husband and I were the only ones who cannot understand Chinese but Jimmy seamlessly spoke in English as well for us to understand which we very much appreciate (although we felt kind of guilty he had to repeat)! The Takachiho Gorge was quite a hike and won’t be suitable for elderly if they walk slow as there are many steps up and down as well. It is a beautiful waterfall and scenic spot. You got to row your own boat so thankfully we did not choose that but chose the train ride instead. Beautiful area in Miyazaki!
