Antelope Canyon

Upper Antelope Canyon is in the Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, just 10 minutes east of Page, Arizona. It's part of the Navajo Nation and is one of the most famous spots in Antelope Canyon for its amazing light beams and cool rock formations. It's a place you definitely want to see in the American Southwest.

Upper Antelope Canyon is often considered better, especially for photographers. There are more chances to see the light beams hit the rocks in Upper Antelope Canyon because it has a narrower slot at the top that focuses the light. The paths in Upper Canyon are also wider and it's at ground level, making it easier to walk through. Unlike Lower Antelope Canyon, you don't have to do much climbing or squeeze through tight spaces.

When you visit Antelope Canyon, you need to book a guided tour. The canyon is protected by the Navajo Parks and Recreation, so only special tour guides can take visitors inside. These guides are usually Navajo and will show you the amazing Slot Canyon. Be sure to book your Upper Antelope Canyon tickets early because tours fill up fast!

From Phoenix, drive north for about four and a half hours to get to Antelope Canyon. On the way, you will see amazing sights, including areas close to the Grand Canyon. Follow the signs to Page, Arizona, and then go to the canyon's entrance on Navajo land.

The best time to visit Upper Antelope Canyon is between 10:30 AM and 1 PM, especially on weekends from March to October. This is when you can see the amazing light beams the best. If you want fewer people around but still want great views, try visiting during the off-season from November to February.

The hike through Upper Antelope Canyon is not very long and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to finish. There are no ladders or stairs, just flat ground. You'll be walking on the sand the whole time—some parts have soft sand and some parts have harder sand. It's an easy trail, making it a great family-friendly activity.
