Things to do in Beppu

The tour package made our trip convenient. Our guide Jimmy was very enthusiastic and made the tour more enjoyable even with the rainy weather. The Yufuin no Mori train is a must to experience, and luckily the rain stopped during our ride (delayed but it was a blessing in disguise). For us, the itinerary was well planned with ample time to explore each destination. Make sure to bring a pair of slippers if you want to try the foot bath in Umijigoku. We really enjoyed our trip, thank you!

The trip was so good. We went to the zoo in the morning and then to umi jigoku, seeing mount yufu on the way to yufuin. Our guide Nicole Yang was very good in explaining and very helpful. She help me taking pictures since I am a solo traveler.

Day trip to Yufuin no Mori , See Hell and Daizhifu. We had a great experience today. The guide and driver were very friendly and helpful. The tour guide was exceptionally professional and friendly. Highly recommended day trip!!! Started the morning with peaceful vibes at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine – the plum blossoms and autumn leaves were stunning, and you can feel the history in every step. Then we headed to Yufuin Town – think Studio Ghibli meets hot spring paradise. After lunch, soaked in the views of Mt. Yufu and explored the cute cafés and craft shops. Next up, Beppu Ropeway for jaw-dropping views of the city and the bay from above. The cable car ride alone is worth it! Additional 1700 yen. Last but definitely not least – Kamado Jigoku (one of Beppu’s famous “Hells”). Not only did we see bubbling geothermal ponds and steam vents, but we also got a complimentary onsen egg (so creamy!) and a refreshing lemon soda to wash it down. A perfect mix of culture, nature, incredible food, and quirky onsen fun. Highly recommend this route for anyone visiting Fukuoka/Oita!

Even though it was raining, the overall itinerary was very well managed. We had a mini-bus with two guides: Zhu Zhu, who handled Chinese and Korean, and another male guide who provided explanations and commentary in fluent English. This was my first time on a one-day tour, and I was surprised that the guides even walked with us. Zhu Zhu is an excellent guide; she provided detailed information about restrooms and lunch options and consistently ensured the group stayed together and that everyone was accounted for. The entire trip was very enriching. Although the schedule was a bit tight, there was still enough time even for those who love taking photos. We even received small gifts at the end! Since I was staying in Takachiho, I opted out of the return trip, and Zhu Zhu was very enthusiastic in discussing my drop-off location. I'm so glad I joined this one-day tour, and I highly recommend it!

The meet up place is in Fukuoka Central Post Office but the bus was actually park in the next building. Our Group is composed of English, Chinese and Korean groups and there were 3 tour guides in our bus. All the places we visited were so nice. I find the time allotted for each itinerary is limited. So it will be a challenge to go around the whole place for those people with mobility issue. Also, reminder to bring Cash when you go yo Yufuin, a lot of them especially the streetfood vendors, accepts only cash. We walked all the way to a 711 store there to withdraw cash 😅 which eats a lot of our time. Btw, our tour guides sends us recommendations on the places we visited and it is helpful. our guide recommended to try the Hinagoten Soy sauce Ice cream- and it was sooo good! it tasted like Cheese Ice cream 🤯

Visiting the 7 Hells is definitely worth it. No guide is needed. Each hell has its own unique characteristic. You can collect stamps at each of the Hells, and best of all, you can enjoy a foot bath in several of them. It's worth dedicating a full day (about 6 hours). I started with the two more remote ones, then took a lunch break (Jigoku meguri is a typical dish), and then finished the other five, which are close to each other. Incredible!
