Kyoto: Tea ceremony & Kimono Rental【OKADA Japan culture center】

We were welcomed there very heartwarmly, we could chose between Kimono categories. There were more expensive categories, where you only had to pay the Price difference, if you liked them more. They were really helpful. After that you get to change in into the Kimono or the Hairdresser, where you can choose between different Hairstyles and Accessoires for Hair. Then you walk with the guide to the nearby Bus Station, where you take a short about 15 min drive to the house of the Tea Ceremony Master. There you get a three Part Tea Ceremony lesson with the Sensei, which is also very kind and nice. After the lesson you can wear the Kimono until 8 PM if you like to take pictures for example or return directly. We can really recommend this experience!!

Yuka san and the tea Sensei were extremely informative. Yuka san was our translator ans was very kind and patient. It was a truly peaceful and mindful experience. Do not hesitate to book this. I can't wait to see the pictures they took.

My wife and I enjoyed this lovely traditional tea ceremony in Kyoto. We started by being dressed in kimonos and my wife had her hair set. We then traveled by bus to the tea house where our guide Yuka met us and walked us over all the while explaining the traditions of kimonos and tea ceremonies and how they date back centuries. Our tea master was a descendant of the original tea masters that served the Imperial family and performs ceremonies for many important people. Yuki translated and explained the whole process and the culture of Chado. We started with a Sakura sweet and then were served the most delicious matcha you could ever have. After the formal ceremony, we moved into the casual area where we made our own matcha and enjoyed more sweets! It was such a special experience and a must if you are to truly experience Japanese culture. We are so grateful to our tea master and guide for giving us this special moment we will treasure forever.

Such a fun experience! Arrived at booking time to the kimono shop to get dressed, hair, and makeup. The time allows for 2 hours for getting ready. Then they provide you with a bus ticket to and from the tea ceremony. It’s the regular public bus and then a host meets at the bus stop for a short walk to the tea ceremony. The tea ceremony is held at the home of the tea master (such an honor) and have 90 min tea ceremony experience to watch the tea master make tea, we were taught to make our own tea, and learned the culture and history behind the tea ceremony from the locals. This is definitely the tea ceremony to book! I can’t wait to go again!

This was absolutely the best part of our Kyoto trip. The shop was centrally located with a wide selection of beautiful kimonos. Everyone was very polite and kind. The tea ceremony was full of cultural and historical meaning. We were honoured to have had such excellent tea prepared by the tea master.

We had a wonderful time doing this tour. The guide is extremely helpful, well versed and makes the whole experience that much better. This tour included being served by an actual Japanese Tea Master, something we noticed a lot of other tours don't do. Right from the initial experience of dressing up, to the transport and the tea ceremony itself were handled really well. We had a wonderful time.

A wonderful way to share the tea drinking culture of Japan with a local tea master. We even dressed in kimonos for this traditional experience. Hosts were understanding about food allergies and provided alternatives. Top experience! Highly recommend to others travellers seeking authentic Japanese experience!
