The Sichuan Opera performance of Chengdu’s “Elegant Rhythm of Shu” is a dazzling pearl in the treasure house of Chinese opera. It is a national folk art loved by people in Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and other southwestern provinces. In terms of opera tunes, Sichuan Opera is composed of four major tunes: high tune, Kun tune, Huqin tune, and weak tune plus a local folk lantern opera. Except for the lantern opera, these five types were all introduced to Sichuan by troupes from other provinces from the late Ming Dynasty to the middle of the Qing Dynasty. Sichuan Opera is a dazzling pearl in the treasure house of Chinese opera. Shu Feng Ya Yun once brought together many famous Sichuan Opera actors and actresses. In recent years, they have reunited Sichuan Opera actors and actresses to jointly launch a nightly “classic opera and folk art.”
Shu Feng Ya Yun was founded in 1998. Based on the land of abundance, it presents authentic Western Sichuan folk arts and classic operas to a high level at home and abroad. It is a large-scale multi-store that integrates traditional Chinese art performances, folk stunt performances, operas, and theater supplies. Functional pear garden resort. Amazing experience as I booked a VIP ticket really early (a few months prior to my trip) and was therefore sat right on the first row not even two meters away from the actors. The performances were all great, you'd better speak some Chinese/have knowledge about Chinese culture to really get everything, but even without that, I imagine that first-timers can enjoy the show as much. Turns out the mask-changing performance was not my favorite out of all the ones we saw, as I discovered many new kinds of classic Sichuan opera performances I didn't know about. This was a lovely way to spend an evening in Chengdu, I would visit again on my next trip.
It is worth it to go experience Chinese Opera, even if you don't understand the language. All performers were talented and the costumes were beautiful. I especially enjoyed the face changing mask performance, which they saved until last. There is a souvenir shop if you want to buy something. Also, you can spend some time before or after the show to take photos in the garden area at the venue.
An eye opener into Chinese Sichuan traditional opera show. There are Chinese opera, comedy show, erhu & di performance, puppet show, hand puppet show and face changing performance. Very entertaining.
come earlier. the street where the opera is located is interesting. there is a nice park at the end of the road. the show consist of various types of Chinese sketches w face changing being the last. we took a train there and it was a short walk to the show. getting our tickets was easy from the booth just behind the ticket booth.
it was an excellent show and a feast of snacks that made us feel like royalty and unlimited tea and nuts. I highly recommend!
visited on 8 June 2025. Paid about 38 SGD for the seats in front of the stage and came with tea (refillable) and some sunflower seeds to munch on. The show was quite entertaining if you like traditional operas, puppet shows, 二胡 and 唢呐 performances. The star of the show was the 变脸。
super entertaining and you can try their traditional ear candling! the acts tell of famous folklore stories!
It was a great experience, fun and exciting even if you don't understand Chinese properly. If possible, book a VIP seat.
it's easy to redeem ticket. The show is impressive. You should watch it when you visit Chengdu.
An enjoyable experience which showcases a range of extraordinary talents without having to understand Mandarin. I was confused about the different pricing within each class of ticket offered by Klook and ended up buying the cheapest SVIP ticket available. Buying it only the day before the performance meant we were at the back of the SVIP section because this is a popular show but we still had a good view. Exchanging for a ticket using the self service machine wasn't possible for me with a foreign mobile number but ticketing staff were on hand to process manually. The SVIP ticket does come with the option of a souvenir, massage or ear cleaning so arrive in time to have that before (or even during!) the performance.
