Wonderful experience! A stately & historical large ryokan nested on the eastern hill slope of Gero town. My second stay at this ryokan & will continue to stay there next time I am in Gero. Very good vista of the town in the morning or evening. Very large garden & landscape, with tall tress & seasonal flower trees.or bushes.. a beautiful & varied feast for the eyes & senses if one come at different seasons... Has its own hotel museum to showcase it's checkered history & early artifacts, etc. just like many other ryokans with a long historical tradition. Onsen water is alkaline typical of Gero & has that silky smooth feel. Food & service is good as expected. If one is in Gero, this is a ryokan that one should stay at least one night to experience Gero ambiance..

Their hospitality is superb!! Traditional japanese breakfast and dinner in the room were very tasty!! The hida beef shabu shabu was unforgettable! Shout to Suehiro for his top notch service during dinner preparation and his very good english! Staff in reception has also treated us with unforgettable hospitality experience!! We will definitely come back! The Momiji room is definitely worth it, specially the outdoor private onsen bath!!

Excellent famous onsen ryokan visited by two previous emperors. Excellent service, rooms are traditional tatami mat rooms but with nice views of Gero town below and the surrounding greenery. Traditional but with character and Japanese flavour. Dinner and breakfast are set courses and excellent in presentation and flavours. Separate men and women onsen baths have large indoor pools and smaller but very beautiful rock garden style outdoor pools - very relaxing to sit in outdoor pool looking up at the night sky stars.

The hotel is surrounded by countless tall trees and we could only breathe fresh air as we arrived. Yunoshimakan is an old-fashioned hotel. "Old-fashioned" isn't used in a negative way, as, after all, this is why we came to stay. Architecturally, this is a very interesting hotel - a historical wooden hotel with seemingly endless carpeted corridors that bring you to different locations in the hotel to gaze out through the windows to its green surroundings and the hills in the distance. We came in May and everything outside was mostly green; I can only try to imagine how the view changes when foliage changes to its autumn colors. Staff members of the hotel were friendly and helpful. Meals were, however, not impressive. I hope there could be options to upgrade them.

Hotel is old. Staffs are polite and helpful. It looks beautiful outside. But inside the property, EVERYTHING needed an upgrade a few years ago.
