"Lines of EVANGELION: The Exhibition" Over 500 Precious Drawings Debut in Taiwan

Since its broadcast in 1995, the classic animated work "Neon Genesis Evangelion" has become an important work influencing global anime and pop culture with its strong apocalyptic aesthetics, profound psychological descriptions, and highly recognizable visual language. Following the enthusiastic response at the Hong Kong station, "Lines of EVANGELION: The Exhibition" officially announced its relocation to Taipei from August 14 to October 4, 2026, to be grandly exhibited at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Taipei Xinyi Place A9, 9F. Pre-sale tickets will also go on sale simultaneously.

This exhibition takes "lines" as its core concept, focusing on the important visual elements that construct the worldview of "Neon Genesis Evangelion." From character outlines, EVA unit structures, to storyboards and art backgrounds, the exhibition features over 500 precious drawings, setting materials, and animation production materials provided by Studio khara (株式会社カラー), including valuable original manuscripts by core creators such as Kazuya Tsurumaki, Mahiro Maeda, and Ikuto Yamashita. Audiences will be able to experience firsthand how the production team meticulously constructed the unique worldview of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" with every stroke.

The exhibition content covers a large number of hand-drawn original animation cels, background art settings, and important production materials from the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series, fully presenting the creative process of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" from draft to animation. Audiences can also glimpse the charm of hand-made production in the golden age of animation from the brushstrokes, correction marks, and composition details in the drawings.

"Lines of EVANGELION: The Exhibition" Five Major Highlights at a Glance

Highlight 1: Rich and Diverse Expressions of the Main Characters, Hand-drawn Original Art by Animators

The exhibition will feature a large number of original drawings (key frames) categorized and displayed according to the five EVANGELION pilots – Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Mari, and Kaworu. Through large-scale, close-up displays, audiences will be able to examine the pencil-drawn outlines of each character, the delicate expressions of emotional changes, and the character's aura emanating from the lines, feeling how animators give life to characters with every stroke.

:::

Highlight 2: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Angel Setting Materials, Mechanical Settings, and Background Art Materials

In addition to character original art, the exhibition also includes a large number of Neon Genesis Evangelion unit and Angel setting materials, design original art, concept art (Image Board), and background art materials for important scenes in the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series, including Neo-Tokyo 3 and the Third Village, presenting the visual composition process of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" from draft to animation.

Furthermore, this exhibition will also showcase a device artwork created using the Unit-01 3D modeling data from the actual production process, revealed for the first time globally. Audiences will be able to feel the creators' artistic concepts and emotions invested in the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" series, whether in analog or digital eras, through lines and colors.

:::

Highlight 3: "Rebuild of Evangelion" Production Materials such as Image Boards Revealed Through Various Display Methods

The exhibition will feature creator Image Boards presented using various display methods such as sound, light, and wires, allowing audiences to experience the creative world of “Neon Genesis Evangelion” from different perspectives. At the same time, a large number of important production materials from the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series will be exhibited, including Layouts (scene layout diagrams), Storyboards, and original drawings, presenting the conceptual process of camera design, character placement, and scene proportions in animation production. The drawings also retain the director’s and animation director’s handwritten correction instructions and production notes. Audiences can not only see the creative process of creators led by Hideaki Anno in pursuit of details but also glimpse the craftsmanship of the producers in pursuing precision and detail in actual production.

:::

Highlight 4: Immersive Exhibition Experience

The exhibition combines light and shadow with spatial performance to create the unique worldview of "Neon Genesis Evangelion." The representative "line" elements from the work are also enlarged and立体化 presented on-site, and sketch-style display boards of characters such as Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Kaworu, and Mari are set up as special spaces for visitors to take photos.

In addition, the exhibition area will also simultaneously play video materials corresponding to the original drawings, allowing audiences to personally experience how every stroke is sublimated into a video work, further experiencing the charm of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" animation creation.
