Guide
- Let seeing become the power of change
- See Taiwan. Director Chi Po-lin's latest "Chi Po-lin Space" No. 7 exhibition "RE-See"
- From an aerial perspective, experience the感動 (emotion/inspiration) brought by Taiwan's mountains, rivers, seas, and cities.
- The environmental theater includes Director Chi Po-lin's aerial photography mission documentary.
- Taiwan's only aerial photography image base.
“Chi Po-lin’s works, created over 25 years at the risk of his life, must be seen to continue to inspire the people living on this land!” It was this belief that motivated the See Taiwan Foundation and moved 8,052 co-builders to generously support it. Thus, in 2019, the “Chi Po-lin Space” officially opened in Tamsui, gathering over 600,000 precious image works by Director Chi. Each year, through different themed exhibitions, it tells stories between people and the land, and regularly collaborates with domestic and international ecological and environmental image creators. Through exchanges and dialogues, it continuously articulates and disseminates the true meaning of being friendly to the land and caring for life, building an image base and dream platform centered on “Taiwan stories.” The ridges of mountains, the bends of rivers, the boundaries of the sea, the expansion of cities, and those landscapes that can never be seen from the ground. Every frame he recorded with his life is a profound gaze: this is Taiwan, this is the land we share. Some places are still beautiful, while others have been damaged by human choices. Chi Po-lin never shied away from such contrasts, because seeing the truth is the starting point for protection. Chi Po-lin unfortunately died in 2017 while performing an aerial photography mission, but this belief did not cease with his departure.
On November 29, 2025, a Taiwanese satellite named after Chi Po-lin will be launched, continuing to overlook this island from a higher orbit in space. Every day between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, when the Chi Po-lin satellite flies over Taiwan, it carries not only image data, but also a continuous gaze and concern, an expectation and communication awaiting a response from the ground.
“Re-See” is to once again begin recalling the emotion of the 2013 documentary “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above.” “Re” represents again, restarting, and is also the core concept of this exhibition. Through a narrative of re-discovery (Re-Discover), re-thinking (Re-Think), and re-acting (Re-Act), you are invited to step in and read. Each turn is a shift in perspective, and every ray of light carries fragments of Taiwan that Chi Po-lin once saw, guiding us to delve deeper into the land and thereby become a force for change.
The satellite transmits signals from the universe, the helicopter overlooks the earth from the sky, and we are the receivers on the ground. How can we, with our eyes, ears, and hands, re-experience everything Chi Po-lin once saw? Not just the magnificent and moving landscapes, but also that delicate yet never-broken resilient emotion between each person and this land. Seeing is never the end. Every time a new intention arises from re-seeing, that is the origin of change.
We sincerely invite you to visit and rediscover Taiwan from Director Chi’s bird’s-eye view, and listen to the moving stories conveyed by each work.
