The journey between Hanoi and Lao Cai (Sapa) operates on Vietnam's national railway — a heritage rail network that runs through mountainous terrain. While our cabins are designed for comfort, please be aware that the ride characteristics are determined by the rail infrastructure itself, not the train operator.

Transfer to Sapa:
- After your arrival at Lao Cai station, the train staff will guide you to the shuttle bus
- Shuttle bus (16-seat minivan - Ford Transit): approximately 70 minutes
What to expect:
- Noise: The train can be quite loud throughout the journey, including the sound of wheels on tracks, occasional banging from underneath the carriage, and ambient noise from other passengers in nearby cabins.
- Vibration & Bumpiness: The track conditions cause noticeable shaking and swaying. This is normal and not a sign of mechanical issues.
- Sleep Quality: Light sleepers may find it difficult to sleep through the night. Most passengers describe the experience as "an adventure" rather than a restful sleep.
- Cabin-sharing rules: Cabin sharing with strangers (mixed-gender)

redemption guide: easy seat reservation process: superb! transport included: on time and respectful driver. We had a wonderful experience with Vic Sa Pa Train. We decided too late to book a sleeper train but the VicSapa Train accommodated us fast and confirmed our booking instantly! The shuttle van is early and the driver is kind. Our trip to Ga Lao Cai train station is smooth and the VIP lounge is great and the people there. The lounge is near the train station so we need not to walk far. Upon entering our cabin, it’s clean and complete amenities, even the air conditioning is great and totally cool. Recommended if you need more sleep and convenience. Booking sleeper train with VicSapa Train is better than sleep bus if you would like to rest the whole journey. The comfort/rest room is clean, even the lavatory. Didn’t try the shower room. If you able to book the private cabin, please do so. For more private and quiet sleep. It runs also to the famous hanoi train street.
Clear communication from the company regarding shuttle van pickup, they'll send you a picture of the vehicle and the time. Dropping us off a couple hours before the train ride at the VicSapa lounge where you can have dinner and shower. I booked the private cabin, which was clean and quite comfortable. However, I couldn't sleep well due to the sound of the chains racking against the wooden wall and the bumpiness of the whole ride, even with my ear plugs in. It was quite a unique experience though, but I'd definitely pick the bus next time.
Convenient and fast. Board the bus in the evening and get off at six in the morning, so you don't waste any daytime. There is a shuttle from Sapa to the station, and the driver will contact you. There is a place to wait upon arrival, and you just board the bus when it's time.
booking process is easy. book and pay on website, get ur railway ticket on the day over the counter then that’s it. the sleeping coach is clean, bed is comfortable. it’s a special and unique sleeping train experience. However… I couldn’t sleep over the night… the railroad track is old… when it started to depart… there were some metal hitting sounds like just underneath ur coach which is very loud and disturbing… and the journey is actually quite shaky and bumpy. if u r a light sleeper, it wouldn’t be a ideal way to go to Sapa.

Nice and clean cabin and comfortable to sleep in. Friendly train staff throughout.
arrived Hanoi 2pm then transfer to Mango Hotel next to the train station as our overnight train was scheduled at 22.00pm. Dropped our luggage and walked around then went for early dinner at Quan an ngon restaurant. After dinner walked back to hotel and took shower at hotel before walking to train station.
