What to expect
River Kwai Bridge is the most famous tourist attraction in Kanchanaburi with a legendary history. Board your own private longtail boat with local captain for a 2,5 hour scenic boat ride at River Kwai.
First stop is at Wat Tham Khao Pun, walk about 10 minutes uphill to reach the entrance of the underground cave. In this cave there are 9 chambers with various Thai religious sculptures, including a big reclining Buddha statue. Even though the cave has a bad smell due to its bats, it is still worth visiting this beautiful temple.
Next, we will make a stop at the original JEATH War Museum. Here you can learn more about the history of Kanchanaburi and witness the shocking pictures of the horrible experience during World War 2.

Reviews
The views from the boat was amazing and it was a beautiful day to be out under the river Kwai. At the pitstop revisited, a beautiful café we had cakes and drinks. Next-door they sold boat noodles. we also had a wonderful view of the river and mountains. we took a tricycle to the nearby cave. It was enjoyable
awesome timing. the 8.30am slot is the best as not so hot and sunny. the end will be just right for train arrival. the bat cave and the cafe experience was awesome. boat ride n captain service is very personalized. Death War museum is very surreal n touched. my hearts goes to POWs.
The view on the boat was beautiful! The boat driver was very kind and provided great service. The deck was very hot when we got off the boat, so they put cushions down for us. Very impressed! Boat condition: Very good.
operator was easily contactable, instructions for meet up were very clear, captain made sure to ensure our safety on board and was very obliging.
I highly recommend taking a ride when you come to Kanchanaburi. The three of us took a ride for about 2 and a half hours around the River Kwai and it was wonderful. Everyone in our group was very satisfied with the trip.
Good to know
- The cave of Wat Tham Khao Pun is home to bats, and has a pretty bad smell. At some spots it is also very narrow. If you prefer not to visit the cave, please let us know latest the day before. Please note that we are not able to replace this with another stop, so we will bring you to that stop which has a viewpoint and some lovely bars.
- The boat has a small roof, but if it rains you might get wet. Please be prepared for this scenario.
- Rain in Thailand is unpredictable and can happen anytime. The tour will continue in the rain if conditions are safe, and no refund will be granted. If conditions are determined to be unsafe, the tour will be canceled and you can reschedule or get a full refund.
- The local Thai captain speaks very basic English, just enough to communicate about the tour.
- Chungkai Military Cemetery is not a part of the standard itinerary and is a bonus if we can visit it. It is not always possible as it depends if the entrance is open, as it is private property.
